I like some of their songs but I remember my mom rocking me to sleep and hearing The Winner Takes It All on her 8track. So I have some warm fuzzys towards that one.

Just pass me a cigarette and hold on
by Eyebrow2 inbeen a while since i have had a chance to visit the board.
a lot of things have happened...dealing with some business crap....ending one and starting a new one with a partner this time...dealing with child custody issues...my husband was laid off....just general stress....arghhhh!!!!.
everything is going to work out i am sure...but i bought my first pack of cigarettes in 10 years on sunday.

I agree with Sherri on this...I don't think a couple of cigarettes is going to hurt. I know many people that are able to cut them out after having a few. I am not one of these. I know I'll quit smoking one day but I enjoy it, especially with coffee. Anyway Eyebrow2, you should probably just watch yourself if you've already quit once, but find some enjoyment where you can-even if it's in a cigarette--(hehe) man, this is horrible stuff I'm saying but I kind of believe it. I hope things go smoother for you very soon.

Still prejudiced towards Halloween
by Snapdragon ini was just reading the thread on how to pick the proper pumpkin.
(thanks xandria) it got me thinking how i still have this recoil factor when it comes to halloween.
it was always "satan's holiday" that i still tell my friends that i probably won't participate in the festivities when i decide to have children.. what do you guys do about this issue?

Sirona- It's fine. I understand a post on this thread may have hit you the wrong way-but (from what I read) I'm not sure the person that posted it meant for it to be taken in as a bigoted statement.

Remembering Halloween As A JW Kid . . .
by Corvin ini remember my mom and my aunt making us kids open the door to the trick-or-treators and instead of giving them candy, we had to put wt and awake!
magazines (back issues) in their bags.
how embarrassing.. anyone else have the same experience?.

I remember going to "witness get togethers" for a couple of years and everytime kids would knock on the door one of the adults would answer and say something like "We don't give out treats because as Jehovah's Witnesses we view Halloween as a pagan holiday blah, blah, blah..." I remember feeling really bad for those confused kids and I think my mom did too so we stopped going to "get togethers" and instead on Halloween we had to keep the lights out and act like we weren't home.

Snapdragon- Yeah, I pass out candy (if I remember to buy candy). They're just little kids having a good time and it's the only time of year kids can safely accept candy from strangers. I don't go all out with house decorations. I think it might be different if there were kids in my house though. I think I'm at the point now where I know the holidays are rooted somewhere but it doesn't matter anymore--they're just for a good time. costume ideas? hmmm...I don't know. A friend of mine dressed up like a Mormon last year. I thought that was pretty funny.

I enjoy Halloween when I'm with my nephews...I kind of think it's meant more for the kids. The holdays are good but more because I live away from my family right now and the holidays are when I can see them. But I kind of understand what you mean. When I first started celebrating it was a bit awkward. I'm still not into my birthday much but I don't mind receiving presents for it.

My mom was a little of both--still is. Although she's not as hypocritical as she was when she was JW.

oh, I forgot about that "Into The Night" song. My mom new all the lyrics to that one and would sing along everytime she heard it (while she was a JW) but she wouldn't allow me to listen to Prince.
