I think my first inkling was when I was around 6. We went to a Sunday meeting and I got smacked for not sitting still and being quiet. My then recently Dfd grandmother attended the meeting as well and took me back to the bathroom, gave me a piece of candy and said she hated it there too. On the ride home my grandmother got into it with my mother over making us kids "act like adults."

the threats, the manipulation, the head games, the forced meeting attendance, forced field service activity, forced family wt publication study, the forbidden association with non-jw?s, the berating and chastising for having a thought or idea of your own, the dresser drawer searches looking for music or magazines you were not suppose to have .
you know, the typical jw upbringing .

the curse of babe ruth is dead.. for you tom yawkee.

607 and Jesus
by kwintestal ina discussion with my grandmother the other day regarding dates for the destruction of jerusalem raised a question.
she stated that the 607 date can be confirmed by the date that jesus was either born or started his ministry...which i can't exactly remember.
she said this was discussed recently at a meeting, and that if you go by the date that jesus was on earth, you arrive at 607.. can anyone elaborate on this belief and why it is wrong?

Hi Kwin- Matthew and Luke attempt to give the time of Jesus' birth, approximately. Matthew clearly states that Jesus was born during the reign of Herod. Luke states that Augustus Caesar issued a decree that the world should be taxed, that "this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria," and that Jesus was born at the time of this taxing. But between these two attempts there is a discrepancy of about ten years-Herod died 4 B.C., while Cyrenius did not become governor of Syria until 7 A.D. Also- the Calendar of Philocalus (354 A.D.) assumed Jesus' birth date to be Friday, December 25, 1 A.D. So...there are some appoximate dates for the birth of Jesus but no real proof and not much agreement. But this is what I've come up with, someone else might have some better information. I don't know if this helps or not Kwin.

Bubbamar the NS is magic. I kinda always thought all those babies would be able to raise themselves afterall wild animals won't attack, everything will be edible, you can't die again and Jehovah's love is enough love even for a baby.
