  I think you should look at the overall statistics for states that abide by CP in the US. You can get those statistics at the Southern Law Poverty Center website. It's not equal. You also need to take into consideration the stats of African Americans who have killed whites vs. killing other African Americans. You'll find many more African Americans that have committed crimes against whites more likely to suffer the death penalty for murder or much harsher penalties for lesser crrimes. Compare it to whites that do the same things....you'll find an overwhelming disparity

  this was a fairly frequent occurence amongst the brothers and sisters in my young dubby days.

  i was heaved out of the cinema on more than one occasion, generally by my mother who reckoned some things were just too much for my innocent young eyes and ears.

  "MOvies that I've walked out of, not necessarily when I was a JW..."

  Well in that case...I walked out of Black Hawk Down. My walking out of this one had nothing to do with religion...just made me angry. No Somolian had a voice except the warlord guy...every other Somolian is shown en masse and the violence is over the top. Other than that the only movie I've come close to walking out of is Lost Highway-David Lynch. I didn't walk out though because I thought it would make sense in the end...I still want my money back even if it was years ago.

  ....anyway, back to the subject...

  I never walked out of any movies......but my mother did- Against All Odds, Summer of 42 are two I remember her having stong convictions about after having left the theater. I remember her talk being very much against Midnight Cowboy.....although it was before my time.

  All I can talk of first hand are the movies I wasn't allowed to see....Purple Rain was a big thing.....along with any other movie that was rated R or PG-13 or had anything to do with the holidays or was rumored to be demonized (Gremlins, Ghostbusters and so on). Sooo, movies I remember as a JW kid are The Wilderness Family and a few Disney movies....I saw Beat Street...but I wasn't supposed to.

  http://www.biblegateway.com/ has a search for words or phrases in many versions of the bible....I do think it's run by a religious group (I haven't really looked into it) but it's a good place to find scriptures you you're not sure the book or verse of.

  Why did we become JW?

  i was brought up in the 'truth' for many years until i was 20 or thereabouts and now being on the outside looking in i see not only jw's for what they really are but i believe i see religion for what it really is too.. consider this point, and this reminds me of a song written by alanis morrisette entitled, forgiven which is a pretty cool stab at religion itself if you read the lyrics closely...one part of the lyrics is 'we all had our reasons to be there'.

  if you came into the truth, consider the reasons why, what were the circumstances of your life...were you searching for something.

  even if they were brought up in it...consider the reasons why their parents started to believe.

  Well, I understand most of the points you've made. I'm not religious myself but as to the point I quoted above...I disagree. I don't think all religions are dangerous. Falling into the wrong hands there is always the potential for it but there are plenty of religions that don't judge in the same way JWs do, that don't have the same strict rules and literal translation of the Bible. I think that is where the danger is. When a religion pronounces that they have a "true" translation of whatever holy text is translated or interpreted. When they take a text and believe it to be literal there is danger....but again I don't think all religions are dangerous.

  Any kind of belief can be a danger if believed in staunchly.

  Jimmy Carter Said IT Again!

  today on the news i heard jimmy carter use the phrase that so many other world leaders have said for so many years.

  he was speaking of the election of the new leadership in palestine and happened to mention those three words.

  it's the three words that every jw goes chicken little over.

  I refuse to believe Jimmy Carter is the anti-christ......he's a peanut farmer and a carpenter (just like jesus).

  GWB on the other hand has me wondering........

  Anyway, the term "peace and security" isn't a new one as previous posts have pointed out. Jws get in a tizzy over anything so these three words shouldn't make much of a difference.

  (by eating less, eating better and exersizing - it actually works sometimes!)..

  jeez, how did you lose it so fast? I hope you're doing it the healthy way....Then again one of my siblings was having a weight problem and he just cut down on the fast food and snacks--cut out pop altogether--started walking everywhere and in no time he was 30 pounds lighter. I haven't ever had a problem with weight (not that I keep track of it) but a couple people in my family have struggled with it.

  UPDATE: telling my parents I dont believe in God

  my parents have noticed my negative and sad attidude lately, whenever were going to the meetings or studying and so on.

  but they just think that i am negative and sad in general.

  i dont think they think that its spesifically because im being dragged to the meetings.. so lately we have had a lot of "serious" talks, because theyre worried for me.

  I would look into what Elsewhere has suggested as well. And keep in mind the example Narkissos gives. It's something you have to be very careful about.

  I was in the same position as you once but I was fortunate in that my mom wasn't attending the KH regularly herself and when I told her my feelings there wasn't any violence -but just my mom blaming herself for not studying with me enough. In my story there were some complicated family dramas that resulted in my whole immediate family leaving the Society. It shouldn't be expected that this will happen all the time.

  You have to take into consideration how your parents will take the news you have to give them. Will it make things even harder to handle or do you think by them asking you your feelings now that they are truley trying to understand where you are at?

  I hope everything works out for the best with you and your family.
