rebel...I don't think anyone was pressuring you, although I don't know about anyone pming you. I will say that when you post something like this you're bound to get many behind you and many questioning. Those questioning are doing just that--asking questions and trying to see your reasoning and maybe even disagreeing with you. This doesn't mean you should stop what you're doing. From what I've seen on this thread there have been some suggestions and disagreements but I don't see any pressuring.
keep doing what you're doing and don't care about some of us putting our 2 cents in.

Did any of you head off to University after leaving the org
by yaddayadda inone of my biggest regrets is not getting a degree, due to the jw brain-washing against higher education.
i feel a strong sense of never having reached my academic potential and having been restricted in many ways by this.
i was a high achiever at high school + some teachers were bemused that i never went on to varsity.

It took me a little while but I went to college and then graduate school. I started out just taking 1 class at a community college. Then I enrolled full-time and was able to keep working at the same time. I didn't know exactly what I wanted but I realized I could actually learn and it really changed me. I went on to a 4 year college after that and then grad school but I think the best part of my education was in community college where I realized I could actually do it.
Just try it out by taking one class. It's intimidating at first but you get over it soon enough.

rabbit- I can disagree if I want to, this doesn't mean I think rebel should stop doing whatever it is she wants to do. I don't think handing a petition to the WTS will do any good, rebel thinks it will--we disagree and that's fine. People don't have to agree.
PS- not mincing words shouldn't be mixed up with getting pissy.

Maybe you can help ... my queste for 17+ years ...
by Vivamus inwhen i was a kid, we used to spend every weekend at my grandparants house.
my grammy had a huge leather brown couch, on which we watched movies (i was either on the couch or hiding in her arms cuz the movie scared me sh*tless).
one day, we were watching a movie, which endscene has haunted my mind ever since.

ya, it was wron but it only going to the WTS falls upon deaf ears. It's not really a stand unless people hear you. So, although I applaud you taking an initiative here...if you don't see that you can send whatever you were planning to send to the WTS to law organizations or poloticians, I'm not sure what the purpose is. I mean obviously the WTS doesn't care, otherwise they wouldn't disfellowship people.
I understand action vs. inaction.....but it's not really action if it isn't heard. Look, I know this is hard and you just want to help, BUT what I'm saying is think about it before going any further because the plan of submitting a petition to the WTS won't do what you want. It won't change any minds and they won't care. I'm not trying to be negative, just being honest with you before it goes any further.
Also, my points/disagreements about the comparisons to the civil rights movement don't have to do with this petition.

Not sure I would really compare this with Rosa Parks and the Civil Rights movement (if you want further explanation from me a new thread should probably be started for it) but it's still important to many.

as far as the aclu is concerned...if people aren't posting their real names it probably won't have any...but if something were sent to them showing how, when and where quotes civil rights, free speech was violated I'm sure it would get their attention. If anything it might get the ball rolling (with the ACLU) as far as other abuse cases with the WTS.
