I have been a member of AAII (American Association of Individual Investors) for a few years now. They advocate a conservative approach for the most part. They are a good educational resource. I would like to hear experiences of any who have dabbled in swing trading or any of the other shorter term approaches.

Yes, the boogie man will get them if they walk into a church. When my father, who was never a witness, died in 1983, I had to arrange for two funeral services. First a memorial service at the funeral parlor so that all my mothers witness friends and relatives could attend. Than a funeral at the church my father attended. My mother refused to attend the church service. My wife and I did, to her consternation. People must have thought we were really strange. Indeed we were.

What made us different?
by Lo-ru-hamah ini am wondering, what made all of us different?
to explain.
obviously most all of us here were at one time brainwashed and endoctrinated with the rest of the rank and file of jw's.

What started me down this path was the whole 607/587 thing. I remember the first time I came across an encyclopedia article about Jerusalem that said it was destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar in 587. I thought, how curious, can that be? That led to research, a subscription to Biblical Archaeology magazine and years of torment.
Once the gates were open, it became impossible to stop questioning everything. -

Franz and a "New" Witness Organization?
by Nellie in.
this strikes me as typical "apostate phobia propaganda" - but a "witness" just told me that ray franz started a "new order of jehovah's witnesses" after he was disfellowshipped.. is there any truth to this?

I thought they dropped the 1874 stuff and changed it to 1914 around 1929. Could you clarify?

JW Dropouts
by unclebruce inin the mid 1960's a non-jw uncle of mine was at high school and enthused about the woodwork, electonics and metalwork he was enjoying.
when i asked mother about it she said "oh don't be silly, armageddon will be here long before you go to high school".
as it was i enjoyed high school but left to pioneer as soon as i legally could in 1972 (aged 15 and just in time to pioneer before the big a).

I graduated from high school in 1970 and could have gone to college. My dad would have supported it as he was not a witness. However, I lacked motivation and being the lazy teenager I was I used what the society was saying as an out.

I'm not really sure I have an all time favorite. However, a couple that moved me and made me think were 'Dead Poets Society' and 'Philadelphia'. I also really enjoyed 'Hidalgo'.

I would love to be in your situation. I would not let her know that I was formerly a Witness and would subtly plant doubts by asking hard quetions.
If your intention is to shock, you will simply reinforce everything she has been taught about worldly people.
You have a grand opportunity to teach, don't blow it.
Just my 2 cents. -

Watchtower Prophesy Guide: Armagedon by 2000AD
by unclebruce in"year 2000" and "20th century" quotations .
from the watchtower societys cd-rom.
following are watchtower bible & tract society predictions of armageddon in the 20th century as found through a word search of the wtss cd-rom.. the society also quoted many secular sources that emphasized crisis in the 20th century.. such secular crisis-quotes would have reinforced in jw minds the prophecies of the world ending in the 20th century.. the following is a list of such secular quotes plus a few more of the wtss own comments.

My mom passed away last year. She was 91 years old and had been an active witness since the late 1940's. She remained faithful to the end but it was a great disappointment to her that she did not live to see armageddon.
