it struck me that so many of the scriptures that the society uses to condemn others, can actually apply to them!.

when we read them without the application that the society enforces, they can make you have that "ah-ha!

:: In the first century, to compare something to "birth pains" meant that the thing compared was a non-event. The birth was the anticipated event, not the cramps. This is in harmony with the context. Jesus didn't want his followers to panic and flee Jerusalem prematurely.

"Overlapping Generation" is a "Spiritual Generation" - a letter to the governing body

could you please introduce the phrase "spiritual generation" to replace the phrase "overlapping generation".

Jehovah will clean his house first...

with all the stuff going on in the org.

that is not being said, many of the friends say, well, jehovah will clean his house first....with all this religious hiding of child abuse...what denomination was exposed/cleaned first...although they were forced they were exposed and many still go to these places of worship.

so are the jw really god's chosen channel.

I think clarification is in order.

It is incorrect to say "Jehovah will clean up his house first..."

It would be correct to say, instead, that "Jesus will clean up the Jehovahz houses"

In other words, when Jesus comes, He'll clean it up all right, with fire.

Just heard that there's going to be some chopping of elders in our congo. Lights are dimming.

One is very old. His lamp has no problem financially, as he was 'up there' in the wage area in 'Satan's world' due to getting education and a good position in a booming business years ago, before the Watchtower was so diligent in snuffing out lamps.

Another elder that looks slated for the heap just moved here to serve blah blah blah, and they heaped the work on him. He is stretched financially. He had big dreams.

Funny thing when you live your life like a foolish virgin, you fall down a lot more in the dark.

Does Paul preach a fundamentally different religion than Jesus?

paul preached justification by faith alone.

People will chose to believe that which they want to believe. Most often, that which agrees with their lifestyle.

Are there "differences" between the OT and NT. Sure. But the Bible has endured thousands of years of tinkering, starting with the Jews and then the "Christian" church.

But, the idea that God was ruthless in the OT and snugly bugly in the NT is preposterous.

God is Love. But Love demands justice. How would God be showing love to the fatherless boy if he coddled the bastard who beat him?

In the NT, Peter started a community. That community was communist in the true sense. In came a couple of capitalists, Anninias and Saphira. They were busted for practicing capitalism in the heart of Gods community. God struck them dead. The Christian God of the NT, the God of love, struck them dead.

And they deserved it. That's what Love demands.

Jesus preached the God of the OT, as did Paul. But their teachings clarified much that was obscured by the Jews.

But people will convince themselves of whatever... here no different than in dubland past.

I don't know that everyone in dubland can be helped to see the light, but I know how I have helped some.

In a one-on-one situation, I have helped get some out. But that is not always possible.

What has otherwise proven effective is a carefully crafted letter sent to a dub in the mail.

As brought out in the OP with the article quoting Watchtower counsel, dubs don't read that stuff. Yep, I get that. After 50 years in the cult, I understand that.

.... unless you carefully craft it and send it to all their neighbors too. And when I say "carefully craft it" I mean construct it with their neighbors as the audience, and craft it so that when the dub opens it, they understand right off that this was sent to their whole neighborhood.

They'll read it.

Elders getting burnt up.

i have overheard comments that demonstrate this, but in my dealings with them, i clearly see it.

they can't keep it straight.

How pathetic. I got a text from the COBE today asking if my son could take the arrangement, and at the hall no less.

Usually he asks me to take it. But today, he knows, I'm off the grid. So, instead he asks me in a text if my son can do it.

First, my son is not an MS. He was passed over because he went to school.

Second, why the hell are you asking papa? For gods sake, he's old enough to take the group, why the hell don't you ask him?!?!?!!!!

Now, I am the biggest "apostate" in town, hands down. The shiFt I've been up to...wooo

And all they got is to ask me... and if my son can do it!! (insert expletive)

We went through the list of possible elders and ms's in the congo, and we can't believe that in two groups slated to meet at the hall this am that the almost TEN appointed ones can't do it.
