chapter 8. a monkey on a string .
my mother never really had much respect for my father.
according to her, my father was weak and “not a good spiritual head of the family.” she probably knew that deep down he was not buying the program.
I guess you could say he got all fired up over his job. It is interesting that we are a product of our enviroment and I can see traits in me that my father and mother had. I try to weed out the ones that i think are bed. Do you do the same?
thus they preach against infant baptisms.
how could a baby know what religion they what to join?
you can still be shunned if you are not baptized.
Great and spot on!
i would imagine that most brooklyn bethelites attended congo meetings via subway.. how do they manage transport from warwick?.
Hey Sparky I remember that car! It was the bomb. I only had a 69 Valient with a slant six.
I remember when I first got to the Farm I was in the Pine Bush congo. We refered to it as the Pine Box congo. There were 67 elders and 165 ministerl servents. I was the assistant in charge of one light switch (ha ha).
it seems that many times in life there is a moment or an action that changes your whole world.
it could be just a look that someone gives you.. many times it can be something rather small.
something hardly noticeable by anyone but you.
When I figured that there were no bigger fools than those that fool themselves!
the door to door salesmen .
southern california wasn’t hawaii after the war but it was real close.
there was great weather, plenty of jobs and no smog yet.
Excellent post New Boy. I bet we met when at Bethel in the 1970's.
according to this publication published by none other than those who want to gain followers of themselves, christ assigned the preaching work to themselves and not jehovah's witnesses.. *** w07 4/1 pp.

From a religious cult stand point they HAVE to have two classes! This is how they get their power + money. After all they think were stupid.

And the brother doesn't even have a tie on!
pastor russell's life fascinates me.
because he seems like a person who never had any fun.
such a serious face without a smile to be found!
Often times when you want to understand someone you need to look at the enviorment that they were exposed to when growing up. The one thing that Russell experienced that had to be big was the civil war, since he was born in 1853. He had to be a teenager toward the end of the war and no doubt had read the accounts of the battles and knew many who had lost loved ones, if not hearing first hand accounts. This had a big influence on all as nothing like this had happened before. Couple this with the industrial revolution and you have a perfect storm of sorts that will make people think and try to find answers for where this world is going. This is one of the reasons people joined groups that had an answer (read Masons). Others came up with answers of their own such as Russsell although he plagiarized most of his writting. Also look at the word usage he used to described thoughts and this will also help you to understand the man. Many people were not just stoic but cynical after the war.
The question: Did he laugh or joke? You bet.....all the way to the bank
Did he play jokes on people? Big time......He started a cult and lead them down a rat hole!
is it possible to have an effect from the inside?
with well thought comments that reveal more of the history of the organization?
the next book we study will be "god's kingdom rules!
I have been following your situation from the post, and can sympathize with you. I faded 30 years ago and there is a price to pay, but morally I felt I had to be in a position to look for and help others in the same situation. I still keep contacts in the org for this reason.
As far as the wife, she is still in but she knows my thinking. Example: Wife says..... Why don't you tell the elders of your questions! Whats a matter, are you scared!
Me: Yes.......what does that tell you about the organziation we are in.
Wife looks at me at that moment speechless. I could tell in her eyes that she got the point and knew I was on to something. She never approached the subject again and would not "tell" on me.
