My feeling is that a lot of those countries that loan us money are extremely dependent on the interest payments made in US currency generated by the aforementioned loans. I think basically that they bet on the ability of the US economy to re-bound from a bad economic downturn and to continue to make those timely interest payments on the debt we owe. However, that will change when the Baby Boomers retire and a real domestic pressure is put on the SS trust fund. I think that is the reason why Bush wants to use the stock market to grow the fund through individulaized accounts. All in all a lot of places around the world don't want to see the US economy falter badly. There is no other economy that is so deep and varied on the face of the planet. I guess the European Union would be next but they don't allow rich people and corporations to rob the rest of the population blind.

The end of Social Security (Not a flame thread)
by Preston indo you guys think social security will ever be reformed?
during the election bush proposed to fix social security through private accounts but given the stock market's last couple of years i don't think private accounts are going to be the solution to it all.
this is not a post written with the intent of bashing a single person, because frankly i think there's enough blame to go around.

Here's a much better article from that series. Ms McWhortet makes some very pointed arguments against the logical fallicies behind conservative arguments.

Does reality matter to you?
The reality is that Ronald Reagan gave a speech using the phrase "state rights" in a place known only for the murder of four civil rights workers. The article you posted earlier as "proof" for whatever the position is you're taking basically implies that Reagan didn't know his audience and didn't know how the words he used would be interpreted. Great communicator....go figure.

JT,
Am I correct in saying that you think the Black people who could have voted but stayed home during the 2000 election are responsible for Black voters being disenfranchised during said election?

I missed this earlier.
You're joking right? So here in Chicago when Mayor Daley goes to Jesse Jackson and says "pssst...I need you to make sure I get the black vote and in return I'll make sure you get blah blah..."
It's probably not much differnt then NRA vote, the catholic vote, the rich white business man vote. All I'm saying is when I read read articles that sight the 50% drop out rate among black Americans or when I read about the conditions of inner city schools, I just wonder who's benifiting the most when blacks almost automatically vote democrat. Is it the black community or certain black leaders? Nothing has changed with these schools for the last 20 years. Why?
But, whatever. I try and do my part through my church and through the YMCA. I'm sure most black americans could don't care what I have to say as I'm sure most white Americans wouldn't listen to your ideas. Perhaps that's the problem.
I think I'm beginning to see your point. You seem to be implying that Blacks are suffering because when it comes to voting they are 'putting their eggs in one basket' so to speak by voting over whelmingly Democratic. That could very well be true. However, my point here never was to justify voting patterns. I was simply answering your question concerning those voting patterns. I'm glad you were able to get some things off your chest, though.

Wait a minute, I want to make sure I understand this correctly. What reason are you saying that Reagan chose Philadelphia, Mississippi for his first major campaign speech?
IMO, he was just doing typical Republican race-baiting. Didn't you read the article I linked? It's pretty much in line with what I think about the subject.

No, just refuting false claims. the Black race. And as I have shown, you have only propagated a Myth that hurts, not help, your race.Your implication was Reagan went out of his way to insult
I didn't imply any such thing. I merely gave my opinion as to why most Blacks don't vote Republican.
Why do you think Ronald Reagan chose Philadelphia, Mississippi ( the place known only for the murders of 4 civil rights workers) as the site to give his first major campaign speech for the Presidency?

I just said they should vote for whomever them want instead of being "delivered" as a group and being told who they are going to vote for.
I's tried....Lawd nos I's tried.....but i just hadda come bak fo this one.
Dude, I never said anybody said blacks should vote a certain way. I just told you why I THOUGHT Black people voted overwhelmingly Democrat. I think you are deliberately misunderstanding this because it doesn't flush with your contention that they vote the way they do because they are told to do so. that just simply isn't the case. As the article I posted shows there is at least one very good reason most Black people have for not voting Republican.
