i took this afternoon off.
over the nice lunch i treated myself to, i thought about how normal it seems to work six days a week and then get bored on the one day off i do have.. does anyone else feel like being in the empire with the added "jobs" of field service, meetings, and study condition you to fill every moment possible?.
especially when you leave, you suddenly have what seems like so much time on your hands.

Same here dude. When I was working I worked sixty hour weeks no prob. I mean if I'm going to do something might as well be gettin paid. As long as you like it and the pay's good I don't see why ya can't spend a few extra hrs on the job.

with all of the america bashing going on of late, i thought i'd mention the fact that america stands for freedom, as flawed as our system may be.
you're even free to be critical of the government and it's leaders.
the many men and women who have died defending this country did so to preserve the rights even of people who hate the u.s. there are many different cultures here, so there are many different attempts at creating laws for the land.

The primary objective of the Civil War was to preserve the Union of these United States of America. I think it was a good thing. the confederacy would never have survived with it's backward thinking and total reliance on an agricultural economy. i doubt if anyone today really thinks that the unity of the 50 states today is at all forced. hell some states have populations and economies that are bigger and more diverse than a great many nations. Yet, you don't here that extreme talk of seccession today. If this country were fractured into many nations a la the Middle East, Europe, it would be nowhere near the power it is today. The ability of a ppl to unify an area so large and diverse both geographically and culturally hasn't been done since the days of Rome. It also is the real foundation of American world power.

i have a question:.
if the wtbts is so into deceiving everyone and trying to reel in as many newcomers as possible, what does it actually have to gain from this?
why are they always trying to switch teachings to make themselves look "believable"?

I think in answering your question, lookat how you feel as a witness or used to feel. I think everyone here wasa t one point intheir lives deathly afraid of being disfellowshipped and losing evrything dear to them. So no matter what you kept up this pretense(consciously or subconsciously) until it was no longer healthy for you to do so. Well, that may not describe everyone here, but I think it applies to some. I think this fear drives a lot of those in the upper echelon of the Society to keep this thing going. Really though what would they do, where would they go if they fessed up and most of the rank and file left in disgust? They no doubt use this fear to rationalize and smother and pangs of conscience they may feel as a result of the misdeeds on their part.

I don't mean to but into y'alls conversation, but I thought California's energy problems came from high prices brought on by ill-advised price caps on production, not any conservation policies. I heard the oil and gas companies(that supplied the energy producers) there made a killing.

it seems obvious to me that they are equal, and that is true regardless of the colour of a persons skin.. but what about a situation where a country has a high immigrant population, and these immigrants cause discomfort to the indigenous people with their culture, is it then a racist act to complain about them?.

I think they WANT a country full of uneducated people, instead of those who are educated and actually work for a living!
Rcat most of those ppl do indeed work. As a matter of fact they do jobs that no natural-born American citizen would do and most of the time they do it for wages that are even below the minimum wage. Still alot of those ppl do it for thier children to get opptunities that their class would never get in their native countries. The "burdens" that TR mentions are no burden to a country that pays tens of millions of dollars for a single wartime jet airplane and subsidizes multinational corporations with huge tax breaks.
Uneducated ppl do work. They work a whole lot harder than most educated ppl. Yet, most manual labor is looked down upon nowadays so your comment really doesn't surprise me. I'll ask a question: Who's more important, a doctor or a garbage man?

I think it's a little of both actually. However, I do feel most anglos are too quick to point out that ppl should learn the language and cultures of the place to which they've immigrated. I think that's true to a certain extent. Some ppl were forced to immigrate to another country or in the case of the little Indian lady you mentioned, she may have moved there because of a family siuation. Besides did't the British subjugate India for a couple of hundred yrs. I wonder how many of the English learned to speak Native East Indian languages during that time. Probably not many. So why hold these ppl to a different standard. Just because ppl relocate to a different area of the world doesn't mean they have to give up their culture, heritage or language. I guess they feel the same as European explorers felt all those yrs ago when they resettled in different areas of the world. Really though, how many of those cats bothered to learn the native languages or give up there culture?
