  Is Islam a religion of Peace?

  the above link shows 164 verses in the koran that instructs the faithful to kill infidels.

  in light of this, how can some still spout the mantra that this is a religion of peace and that it's only the "radical fringe" that are causing problems?

  And that is the key. Violent Muslims are violent for the same reason as Christians have been violent in the past. They are normally violent because they are an ill-educated peasant who believes sincerely in a very literal and antagonistic interpretation of their faith, feels threatened or victimised, and are normally being used by far smarter ones for ideological or financial ends.

  Exactly. The main problem with most of the regimes in control in Islamic countries is their hoarding of wealth in the hands of a relative few. These few are manipulating the poor majority to believe that the poverty and oppression they experience are due to the influence of western nations. These same few are propped up by western nations in exchange for realtively easy access to their resources, namely oil. If the West would get serious about forcing these countries to deal fairly with their populations, then we would not be experiencing the difficulties we are faced with at present.

  One Islamic country that comes to mind is Malaysia. In that nation the Islamic monarchy has used the wealth generated from oil profits to enrich not just the people in power but commoners as well.

  This topic is a bit unfair. The vast majoity of the Quran was penned after Islam was out it's beginning staged and had already become a force from northern Africa to India. A better comparison would be to compare it's behavior with other dominant faiths, at similar stages in their history. If that was done I'd doubt we see any real difference between Islam and the others.

  i have to ask- what's a gallon of gas where you live?

  i just talked to my folks in socal and they said it was around $2.25 per gallon for regular unleaded.. i just noticed today gas hit $1.59 p/g (northern colorado) at sam's club!!

  what's up it was $1.99 just a few weeks ago?

  Annanias and Saphira - only record of Christian executions?

  the new testament only records the execution of two christians, annanias, and sapphira his wife.. they lied about the amount of money they made when they sold their field, and secretly kept some of the price back.. acts 5 tells the story.... acts 5. .

  It is something of interst, though. I've never really looked into it, but money does seem to play a pretty prominent role in the early stages of the Church. There had to be a pretty good amount of fund raising going in even in the days shortly after the Pentecost when monies were collected to care for the 3,000 who stayed in Jerusalem after the out-pouring of holy spirit. If my memory serves me correctly, the office of ministerial servant or deacon was created to deal with this very issue.

  these arent family members according to the caption, they're just people waiting outside the courtroom when the sentence was announced.

  their faces show they have some major emotional investment in this trial.

  the man even appears to be praying.

  Yeah, the media sensationalizes events like these. I remember sometime last year a a young girl killed one of her best friends by stabbing him to death. The scene with her covered in blood and the paramedics desperately trying to save the young boys made the front page of the paper. It was so shocking and I could not see the need for it, except to seel papers. It was a horrible event, no doubt, but who realy benefits from seeing stories like these plastered all over the headlines in print and other media?
