How do apocolytpic cults start?
by EntirelyPossible ini was doing some reading on jonestown recently, which led me to some reading on the branch davidians and the heaven's gate folks.. it seems to me (and this is the part i want to discuss) doomsday or apocolyptic cults all share some common characteristics:.
- secret knowledge of am impending disaster.
- their survival if they follow the messages from a higher source that their leader receives.

AGuest (this is the last thing I'm going to say to you as AGuest) me thinks you protest too much. If you really didn't care what folks, who dare to disagree with you, think and say YOU would not say a peep to them. Not one peep. But you do care. You want that attention. You like the attention. From my prospective it seems to feel a need. But get this, no one here has to believe one peep that comes out of your mouth. Not one peep. And some folks will contest every word that you put on this board. Your reaction to that fact is a reflection of YOU, not them.

I think about that all the time when I look at my kids. I try to be the mother I wish I could've had. I wish my parents would have stressed education instead of ignoring it and me. I was in gifted programs from grade school to high school but I truely thought I was stupid because my parents never told me otherwise. When a child is told they are stupid by their parents most often the child will believe it despite any other evidence.

can you drink it -- the leaded stuff -- any time, night or day?.

It's amazing what some folks will do to get at the higher grades of coffee. Watching that show makes me curious to have a taste of the coffee that guy finds.

And OP, we don't have those coffee venues out here around the Sactown area but when I get back to the Bay Area I'll look them up. At least we have Peet's out here tho'.
