NHL Lockout... Whatever Shall We Dooooo?!?!
by Scully inso, it sounds like the nhl and the players association is deadlocked and there's no contract.
the owners want to put a cap on the players' salaries and the players say no deal to that.
if there's no hockey this season, have you thought about how you're going to occupy hockey nights??.

contact sports
by ogoshi in.
ive just found this forum and im hoping someone out there may be able to clarify something for me.ive been told that jw people are not allowed to practice some contact sports ,such as judo, boxing.karate etc but can play rugby and, american football.surely the last 2 sports ive named are just as aggressive and violent as the first 3.i would be interested to know why some are banned and some are not.
my sport is judo, and formerly rugby and im not a jw but have a good friend who is.i hope someone can answer this as i find it quite puzzling.. thanks ...ogoshi..

Holy crap. Contact sports. I think Rugby has the most contact. I remember in P.E. being on the bottom of all those people piled on me. That was definately contact.

hope and fear in relationships
by Markfromcali ina 'friend' of mine just dumped his wife, who has basically been supporting him probably more than just financially.
without going into much detail, lets just say his thinking is not very clear.
anyway, i feel pretty bad for her as it came as quite a shock, and although they are probably just incompatible it just got me thinking along these lines, and i found this in the book the heart of the buddha by chogyam trungpa.

I do agree that our parents at some point do come into our relationship. No matter how hard we fight it, we are a product of how we were raised as children. It always comes out in different ways. Hard to explain. I do think that we can change though, change ourselves and in a relationship. It is dependent on two people. Is the other person as willing. Hope and fear, will they get in the way or help the relationship to grow is my question?

Consciousness and mental health
by Markfromcali ini thought it would be good to point out the difference between consciousness work, such as meditation and certain types of spirituality, and mental health.
although there are some overlaps as it does deal with your mind, it's occurred to me that mental health is primarily concerned with the psyche, and in that sense it might be considered a type of specialization in terms of a particular work dealing with human consciousness.
while things like meditation can help give you a degree of peace - and sometimes lasting shifts in consciousness - it would be good to understand the difference.. these days meditation is becoming more popular, and people are attracted to paths like buddhism for the same reason, but it really isn't a substitute for mental health care.

This is very interesting. A friend of mine had suggested meditation to me the other day. Being the way I've been raised as a JW, I've never concidered this. She said it might calm me. She knows I'm very hyper. I think I can do meditation until the cows come home and I'll still be a hyper, energetic person but hey it's worth a try. I guess I find it a little intimidating. It's probably because of my upbringing in the Org. Can it help with depression. It sounds like it from the previous comments. I'm intrigued.
