when people post to jwd, do you make an effort to understand "who" they are and take an interest in their wellbeing, or are they just 'ghosts in a machine' there to entertain you?
do the people here fall somewhere in-between for you?
do you think it matters?
I do see real people here, but it does make a difference when you meet them in person or at least speak on the phone. You "hear" their voice differently in their posts when you know them personally.
first off, i've been lumbered with the dreaded sciatica.
what else...oh yeah, we've had the highly entertaining julie feuhrbacher staying with us for a few days.
boy that girl sure loves a pint or 4 of hobgoblin!
Eman - we've missed ya! But it's good to hear you were out having fun in RL. Good for you!

didn't it drive you up the wall how, after a long week of working or going to school, you had to spend your entire weekend at an assembly?
the saturday and sunday that you could've spent catching up on some yard work, or even relaxing was wasted away by sitting in a bunch of chairs, listening to stuff you've heard many times before.. i know this used to drive me up the wall.
it felt like i had absolutely no time to myself during these weekends.
As someone who was totally indoctrinated up until the point we quit, I actually looked forward to assemblies and conventions. Yes, they were tiring, and yes, they were full of boring discourse after boring discourse, and long horrible line ups for the bathrooms, but I enjoyed spending that time with my family, and I enjoyed meeting up with people I'd gotten to know over the years but only saw at conventions.Of course, now you couldn't get me to do it for love or money. I'd rather spend my weekends with people who actually give a flying flip about me.
Scully, I was like you. I loved the assemblies - it was different from the norm. That and my folks let me take the binoculars so I could scope out the cuties on the other side of the convention center. Now? You couldn't pay me a million dollars to sit through one of those things without getting ill.

the journey being life, what have you discovered that you never expected to... could be a musician, actor, a movie, a type of food, a thought, a realisation, a religion, a thing about your personality or an emotion, a particular song... it could be anything really.... what have you discovered?
.
for an oldie i'd pick audrey hepburn singing moon river ... mmnnnn, i never get tired of that.. currently i'm listening to norah jones an aweful lot.
she is very easy on the ears and is my "audible-heaven" right now.. so who's voice makes you 'melt' ?
Purplesofa,
John Mayer - adorable boy next door with those big puppy dog eyes and soulful voice. And his fingers on that guitar. *sigh* He's actually a very underrated guitarist.I agree, I saw him in concert last summer. His guitar playing is awesome. He is so different live. Why Georgia....mmmmmm....... He said he wanted to be a great guitar player but did not think he would be a Stevie Ray Vaughan, so he did the singing to also get to guitar play.
I did see him last year - my sweet hubby bought me tickets for my birthday. I said, "Why are you doing this? You realize this is the only competition you'll ever have." LOL But he is amazing live. I lost my voice singing to almost every song he played. I felt like a school girl.
"Why Georgia" is one of my faves! But the one that always makes me cry is "Daughters". Hits close to home for me.
Also...love Indigo Girls, Patty Griffin, Beck, and Placebo.
SixofNine - who did you say I would like if I like Patty Griffin?
.
or, as a friend calls him: "the boneless chicken.".

and some idiot with a camera to capture the moment!
Hey...some of us idiots actually get paid for that stuff!

Nina,
I'm sitting here crying with frustration over my financial crap and then I click on this thread. I'm blubbering and laughing hysterically all at once. Thanks for the pick-me-up.

if you aren't a "believer", does it bother you when someone says "i'll pray for you" or "i prayed for you"?.
one of my colleagues is an incredibly kind and sweet person, and i know she says it because she believes she's doing something good on my behalf.
i always say "thank you for thinking of me", because i know that's the spirit she's intending to convey and that she cares about the situation i'm in vis-a-vis my jw relatives, but she knows i no longer believe in god (at least not in the sense that she does) - i wonder does she think that a few prayers are going to change my mind?
It used to irritate me (I'm not a believer) but I've come to the understanding that the person(s) doing the praying really cares about/loves me . It probably makes them feel like they're doing something extra special and personal. (Hey, paint my house instead) It's the equivelant of me telling someone I'll be thinking of them or sending positive vibes their way when they're going through a bad stretch. I'm not going to take that away from them.
Thank you for choosing to not take offense to it. I am a believer and I do pray for people all the time, whether they know of it or not. Whether they agree with it or not. It's something I want to do out of kindness and it's not something I offer to just anyone. It's never out of pity. My prayer life is very personal and I find solace and joy in it - if you don't that fine - but it's still my prayer life. Since I AM a believer, I don't ask you to go against what you do and pray for me when you're not a pray-er, right? I'll take whatever it is that you send in my behalf because I respect your beliefs. Isn't just better all around to be gracious/thankful about a gift someone gives you even if you don't want it? If you're a witch wishing to help me, you cast a spell out of the kindness of your heart, who am I to say no? It's your gift. I'll simply say thank you.
i hope someone can help me with this one............................ i finally got the money together to take a holiday to see my sister out west.
i also booked this flight to have my son come along with me as he has never flown before...he was soo excited and so was i.we planned a 8 day trip for the march break and planned on finally seeing the mountains and checking out the biggest mall in the world..... we booked our flights and used my debit card to purchase the tickets and 10 hours later, the company we booked the tickets with ( jetsgo) went bankrupt!!!!!!.
in getting my money back or a flight...... http://www.news1130.com/news/local/article.jsp;jsessionid=miomdhcfioio?content=20050311_173002_5560.
(((((Morty))))) I just read this thread. I'm so sorry to hear about this - yikes! But it's cool that you'll be on the news about it - maybe it'll get enough of the public's attention and the courts could force them to pay you back.
Good luck tonight!
