especially not in this heat; they'll just go stand under the air conditioning vent.
in fact, the only two groups of people who work in america anymore are white people, and mexicans.
hell, they ("they" in this case being the govt., i gather, but i'm unclear on exactly what govt.

what would the jehovah's witnesses have to say about eating disorders?
presumably any kind of mental illness is frowned upon and put down to weakness of the spirit.....i know when i was in it, one sister was severely chastised for having depression....she was told to have more faith in jehovah and presumably when she did, her husband would stop beating her and sexually abusing their kids which was understandably the source of her depression!
!
Everything that i believed prior to being a witness I found out were not true. I dont want to argue here, but alot has to do with Doctrine.
Come on. If you have the Truth, do you not have the courage to back it up with WHY you believe it's the Truth? If I were a householder, I'd laugh you off my property. But I'm not. I'm much nicer and I can come back to your explanation anytime I'm on the board. I'm patient.

It is because I Honestly feel i have found the truth
What makes you believe it's the Truth?
i wanted to share this recent incident and it really pi$$es me off.
i called my grandfather yesterday who is a believing but inactive jw due to health reasons.
he is 83 and in very poor health and is alone since his wife died 3 years ago.
(((((Ticker)))))
I'm so sorry.
i am in the process of fading.
my husband's a well-respected elder.
i have 2 teenage kids.
GGG,
I'm not a JW, nor is my husband. I was DFed years ago and haven't been back since. But I will say the reason I haven't gone back is the fact that they say they're the chosen people of God and that you can see that by the fruits of their love. I found more love among my worldly coworkers than I did within the walls of my congregation! There was more gossip, backstabbing, and downright meanness at the KH than on Maury. If they were God's chosen people, I didn't want to have anything to do with it.
Good luck to you! And congratulations on getting your kids out. I'm proud of you!

hi everyone, i'm new here......basically, i found this website a couple of weeks ago when i was in dire need of some like-minded souls who had felt screwed up about the jw's.
from about the age of four/five, my parents and i were involved in the organisation, and all three of us are stil messed up because of it.....we are no longer involved in it, but it took quite a few years before my parents found the strength to leave.
to begin with, i was quite a zealous jw, was baptised at twelve and disfellowshipped at fourteen, because as i got older i began to grow ''weak in the truth'' as people so kindly described me!
Many things prompted me to start thinking, really thinking about the true nature of the organisation, You had such deeps thoughts at such a young age
I also would like to know why you would say such a thing. At 12 and 14 is she not allowed to think of those things? Obviously if she's mature enough to get baptized at that early age, she's mature and smart enough to comprehend when things aren't right. Right?
You speak out of both sides of your mouth defd. You have a tendency to be forward thinking and condescending at the same time. What gives?

Im certain some "friends" would look down on that. But we are not serving Jehovah because of the "friends" are we?
defd - I admire your forward and loving thinking. Honestly, I do. There should be more JWs like you. But you know, deep in your heart, that a lot of what's done in the congregation is done for show. It's not done because of a personal relationship with Jehovah. It's done because it's a preventative to keep people from judging you and talking about you. If you have a good honest-hearted relationship with Jehovah...the Jehovah from the Bible...you'd realize that most JWs are nothing more than Pharisees. Can you honestly follow an organization that is led by men like that?
Jehovah's "chosen" people (Israelites) one time lost favor in His eyes. Because of that He opened His blessings to the unclean...the Gentiles. Don't you believe it could happen again?

Even if they do seek medical help, wouldn't they be looked down upon for doing so? I would imagine the gossip mill would be kept busy for awhile if someone was depressed and seeing a doctor and taking meds.
Carla, YES! Taking meds isn't so much the issue - you'll be hard pressed to find a pioneer or elder's wife that isn't on Prozac or Xanax nowadays. But talk therapy is a different issue. How dare we air dirty laundry to complete strangers that are not even JWs!!! Problem is, most of the time anti-depressants don't have their full effect unless combined with the tool of talk therapy.

Thats not true. Some of the LATEST Watchtowers an Awakes condone seeking medical help if needed. The fact that a religion has to tell it's members that it's OK to seek professional help for medical/mental conditions shows them for the control cult they are.
This is my beef too mtbattoon. Why do you have to wait for a Watchtower or an Awake to give you permission to take care of your health? Isn't it common sense that when you have a foot ailment, you go to a podiatrist. When you have a toothache, you go to a dentist. When you have emotional/mental issues, go see a mental therapist! Do these people honestly have to wait for a 3rd grade reading level magazine to tell them to do that? "Oh, the WTS says it's okay now, so I'm seeing my therapist later this week."
*shaking head*
Don't get me wrong...I understand most R&F JWs just want to be good and obedient. I guess I'm just sad that they feel they can't do anything without checking the bound volumes first...not the Bible...those damn bound volumes. Those are NOT inspired of God.
