What is WRONG with people? (Looters, shooters, et al)
by AlmostAtheist ini'm sitting here in awe, just having read that evacuation helicopters are reporting being shot at in louisiana.
shot at.. looters are seeing an opportunity to take goods that will probably be destroyed or paid for by insurance anyway.
it's dirty and nasty and wrong, but i can live with it.

(((((((((Andi))))))))) no harm no foul.
Thank you for your grace hillbilly. This situation is so frustrating - we are so limited on what we can do. In the meanwhile, there are babies dying from dehydration and elderly dying because of lack of medication and care. *sigh*

hillbilly,
I'm sorry I misunderstood you. I thought you were speaking of the citizens of NO. That's what I meant when I said this isn't the time. I can't imagine that someone would ever purposely put people in the Superdome for purposes of killing them, but I see your point.
I cannot stand to see those babies and elderly people suffering. Why aren't we airdropping food and supplies to these people???? We do it for other people in other countries...why can't we do it for NO???

Six, this is breaking my heart. Those babies. All those babies. And the elderly. What can we do????? We have to be able to do something other than just watch.

hillbilly,
Pardon me for being harsh, but this isn't the time or place to be making comments like that. Our first goal should be to help, not condemn.

"Relief Effort" here in Texas
by theundecided2004 inhey guys,.
just thought i'd let those interested know what the north texas part of the org is/isn't doing to help in the relief effort from a first hand account.. first of all, we all know that the society isn't helping anyone that isn't a dub, maybe unless they are a serious bible study or something.
that being said, by monday we had several refugees camping out at different brother and sisters' homes, most of whom they were already friends with or were referred to by mutual friends.

My name is Arnold DeJesús. I am an active publisher and baptized member of the Union Park Congregation in Orlando, Florida. I was raised in the Truth and spent 7+ wonderful years at Bethel, from 1975 to 1982. I will later post some pictures and more information about my family and myself. I’ll gladly send you contact information for local elders to verify these facts.
The very fact that he has to qualify himself with that last sentence just goes to show, how ridiculous the paranoia is about apostates. LOL
I can't get into the donation link either.

"Witness Humor" *or* "Jehovah Jollies"
by GetBusyLiving indid you guys ever find that dub's laugh their heads off at the corniest stuff?
sometimes during the meetings they would all just burst out laughing at the lamest jokes or comments.
for the life of me i could not understand what they found humorous.

My dad has always had a lame sense of humor. Stuff he thought was hilarious was either hurtful or inappropriate.

Very interesting, that link to jw-aid.com. Initiative shown by local brothers, stepping into the embarrassing void left by NY's inactivity.
A pity that "mother" will make every effort to shut and down, and likely remove the "privileges" of those who set it up. It is quite embarrassing to them, in more ways than one.
This was my first thought too. This is probably some poor sap in FL with a great heart and good will, that has no idea he's probably stepped into a bear trap. Poor guy. I don't know if he knows what he's gotten into. If the Society does ask him to shut down the site, then perhaps seeing first hand how autocratic the brothers really are, then it'll help them get out of the WTS sooner.

Smells that evoke memories...
by LittleToe inisn't it funny how certain smells can have a strong effect in evoking distant memories?.
i was reminded of this when i just opened my desk drawer.
a little earlier today i bought a local newspaper (which is unusual for me) and didn't have time to read it so i stuck it in the drawer.

*sigh* a fluffy thread
My granddad's Old Spice. It smells awful on everyone but him. It reminds of me of his grizzly unshaven face and his head-thrown-back-belly-laugh that always ended with a big sigh. He used to take me fishing, teach me about his garden, how to find wooly-worms on the road in the fall, and how to crack pecans with a nutcracker...yanno...all the necessary things of life. I love my grampa.
