It makes me wonder what the Yearbook will say. If 7,000 publishers end up missing, will it be reflected in the numbers or will they somehow "magically" make it a wash?

NO Kingdom Halls rebuilt or repaired in NOLA - 6 months after Katrina?
by sir82 inmy mother attends a different congregation, and they recently had a "special" saturday afternoon talk/slide show from someone who spent some time in the post-katrina society-organized relief effort.. she says that this brother reported that all of the kingdom halls in new orleans were damaged or destroyed by katrina, and that to date, none of them have been repaired or rebuilt.
the reason that was given was that all of the jws who lived in new orleans are living elsewhere, and the society has little or no idea of where they are.
if i remember correctly, the number of jws there was given as 7000(?).

I seem to remember a Frank and Peggy Vallejo from that area. Friends of my step-mom's I think. I remember while we were there, Peggy and my parents went to the meeting one night and Frank stayed with me and my baby brothers. I remember he was terribly drunk the whole night, but I remember him being funny. I remember going to her dad's house a day or so later and eating mudbugs that were so spicy my lips burned. My first experience with spicy food and I loved the rush.

Initially, after my DF, I went off the deep end. I smoked, slept around, partied all the time, dated men that were BAD choices for me, drank myself into a stupor for a long while. Anything to drown the depression cause by the pain of having lost my parents, brothers, friends and religion. I knew enough about myself to never do hard drugs. I knew I'd be the type to get addicted, so those were off limits. There is about a 2 year period that I just don't remember much of. Then the dust and excitement of that life started to settle and it was out of my system. I started taking care of myself.
A lot of people would say that I "found God", but I don't think I found anything. I just discovered how to look at God through eyes other than JW eyes. I started reading the Bible for what it was, a book of questions...rather than a book of answers. I still struggle with the depression at times, but I'm finding myself get stronger with every bend in the road. I'm rather enjoying "growing up."

Last night I was out too late at a friends. I came home where my husband, the house chef, had prepared a lovely tuna salad sandwich for me. Tonight, his parents are taking us out for his birthday dinner to our favorite sushi bar. Mmmm. My mouth is watering just thinking of it.

Meeting Clothes
by Nosferatu ini absolutely hated the concept of "meeting clothes".
all my meeting clothes were hand-me-downs from other brothers.
i always hated getting hand-me-downs from the fat jw kids who were older than me.

they got a lot of mileage out of laughing at us (my sister and I ) in our "Laura Ingalls clothing".

As a child, I look back and cringe when I remember the frocks and muumuus I had to wear. Then again that might have also been the fact that we were all victims of the 80's. All those puffy sleeves and princess waistlines. Ugh! It really was when I was starting to exit that my clothes finally had some taste to them. Occasionally I'll see a picture of what my mom or dad and brothers wear today and it just makes me cringe. My dad with those short sleeve button downs and ties with no undershirt so you see his nippies showing through. Blech. One thing I really dislike is a man wearing a dress button down without an undershirt. It's really gross to me.

At this age, babies drop things all the time. Pacifiers, rattles, bottles, spoons, teethers, toys. If you watch the video in that link, the baby makes a noise when he finally reaches the clothespin. Almost as if he's saying, "Here you go" or "got it", like momma or daddy would do.

This is fascinating. Do you have a link to where this came from?

Parlour Tricks of the Mind
by LittleToe ini offer you a few recent musings, to consider.
i'm not trying to make statements of facts or argue for a set of beliefs, or anything of the sort.
i guess i'd just really like to discuss the subject of the mind without getting entrenched positions on the various subjects surrounding it.

Is the padding firm and spongy, or soft and saggy?
And why did you take that as a double entendre?
Actually, I had no idea what you were talking about. Get thee mind out of the gutter man!!!
