finding friends outside the Borg - a Scary thought
by lydia inhas anyone else found that the teaching of the "outside world" being a "bad association" limits your involvement and ability to make new freinds?.
if so how have you overcome this and any suggestions to helping those suffering from these feelings?.

Lydia,
That teaching only limited my ability if I LET IT. And I don't. I think everyone should use their own common sense when it comes to making friends ANYWHERE. Funny, when I was DFed I found some worldly people to be better friends than some of the JW friends I had at the KH.
To me a friend is someone who loves unconditionally. Doesn't mean they approve of every one of my actions. But that even if I disappoint them or do something incredibly wrong, that they hate the sin and still love ME. And still treat me with kindness and grace. Exactly as Jesus Christ would do, but NONE of my JW friends EVER did.
I guess what helped me overcome those thoughts was just giving worldly people a chance like I wanted a chance from my judicial committee when I was DFed. And not being judgemental towards others before I knew them. Made a world of difference for me!

Oh my goodness! I just read this thread. Kevin I cannot tell you how sorry I am. Jon was one of the sweetest men on this board. Yes, his wicked sense of humor always had me in stitches. My heart hurts. I know yours hurts beyond my understanding. Jon told us many times how much he loved you and how you were such an inspiration to him. I don't know if he told you that, but know that he did tell us. Please email me if you ever feel the need. I would love to have a mailing address to send you some personal thoughts!
Hugs and lots of love,

Horror of horrors.....
by Tatiana ini know that while being a witness, we were not really allowed to watch horror movies, or anything that smacked of demonism.
anything supernatural.
my question is, what movie or movies, since leaving the society, has really scared or upset you?
-
Billygoat
Tatiana,
I remember seeing "The Shining" and it was scary when I was 18. But I've seen it since and didn't find it that frightening. I have never and don't anticipate seeing "The Exorcist" - the trailers were enough to give me heebie-jeebies. "Stigmata" was scary to me because I do believe in evil supernatural beings, but the ending was a total letdown.
If you get the opportunity to see "The Others" it is a pretty good movie. It was made with a Hitchcock scariness to it. No blood, no guts, but certain scenes will make you have absolute chills. There were two scenes where I actually screamed! The ending is pretty good too.

Dancing Queen
"Whether it's throwing your own theme party or mixing it up on the karaoke stage, we can see you strutting towards the jukebox in platform, glitter boots and a skintight jumpsuit to the tune of your personal anthem, "Dancing Queen." You aren't just part of the scene, you make it. You anticipate the good stuff in life, and with a theme song like yours, you're sure to get a lot of it. Crown jewel of the 70s, this Abba smash is expected to raise spirits in just about any environment, from dance floor to kitchen floor, and full-blown party. Yours is the comfort food of theme songs—steady and always welcome. Which is how your friends often view you. At your next soiree, it wouldn't surprise us if you danced with everyone for about 30 seconds, started a mambo line, then spun off to dance, jive, and have the time of your life as only a true Dancing Queen can."
...skintight jumpsuit? BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! ((()))

Hey Tina!
My final straw came when I was working my ass off to get reinstated. The shunning was what did it. My two very best friends acted like I wasn't even worthy of being snake toe jam. That and the fact that even my parents shunned me at the KH. (I was still living at home, but they wouldn't talk to me there either. Ha!) I just couldn't believe that my very closest friends and family would totally dump me for confessing a sin to the elders. I was looking for help and I got kicked out. It was by far, the most difficult period of my life. But a blessing in disguise that I am so thankful for now!
Love,
