I did what anyone should do when they don't have facts and figures at their fingertips to back up what they know emotionally to be true: I started to cry like a little girl. That's when he graciously changed the subject over to Saudi Arabians, and I brightened right up. Everyone knows I hate them goddam ragheads!

Billy made some pretty mean comments. Im simply stating my opinions and thoughts, the same as everyone else here(minus the vulgarity).

Nothing I said was mean. It was honest. There is a difference. Sometimes honesty hurts...especially when you don't want to believe the facts are true. And where was I vulgar?

Someone else mentioned being thick-skinned. This is not a word I'd use to describe ANY JW. They are ubersensitive to anything said negatively about their beliefs. To any JW reading this: If what you have IS the Truth, why be ubersensitive about the negativity? Won't your precious Truth stand the test of time and all the naysayers? We have all seen the changes in the last 25 - 50 years by your very own publications. It doesn't seem many of your teachings are standing the test of time at all.

the old kh i went to would give off this strange smell of burnt paint ever time the central heating was put on.

I would have to say "cheap cologne" too. Moth balls always remind me of this elderly anointed sister in our congregation in Missouri. I don't remember her name, but she was always very kind and sweet...just smelled of moth balls.

I f'got my one exception; I wouldn't want my kid to marry a Jap/Scot-Irish/German/Dutch/French/Cherokee. Not because they are bad people per se, but they just won't work; they prefer to stand around under the AC vents all day.

Erm... yes, I did mean hackles and not shackles.
The rest, I wholeheartedly agree. Today, some fifteen years after leaving the Org, I still sometimes feel like a child in the world, learning to function properly in the real world.

Daystar, Same here. We've been out about the same amount of time. I consider myself a "late bloomer" thanks to the bOrg. I'm now thirty-(ahem)something and just now finding the confidence I need to feel grown up. Better late than never, right? Andi

Actually, I'm a little sympathetic towards the fellow. You can see him struggling. He knows what the Bible says, he's done his research, and he's realizing what he sees in the congregation isn't matching their very own teachings. I think this is the beginning of cognitive dissonance for him. Back when I went through it, it was very hard because I had to balance what my critical mind was showing me, yet I still had the knee-jerk reactions of a typical dub. It's hard to overcome those "tapes" that are drilled into you after so many years. I still battle them on occassion. Someone said it teasingly in another thread, but there is a tinge of truth to it: critical thinking is a really scary thing to someone in a cult. They see one thing, but are being taught another.

Personally, I have high hopes for defd. He is much like I was 15 years ago when I left. Sensitive, compassionate, intelligent and thoroughly confused. Ultimately it was the lack of love, honesty and integrity that made me realize these are not "God's people". Their actions did not match the Bible. I have a feeling he may be finding some of these same twinges of confusion.

two leading oncologists both agree that my daughter bethany might be alive today if she had not been fed arsenic.

as you may recall, the wts arranged to take my sick daughter into hiding for two months and payed a doctor to prescribe arsenic.

the doctor ant the wts lawyers convinced bethany that the arsenic treatment could cure her.

defd, that doesn't even make sense. When a child is under the age of 18, it is still a child. A parents MUST, morally and lawfully, make decisions for them. A parent whose child is 18 and joins the military, has decided on his own adult accord to do so. If you're gonna compare, at least compare apples to apples. This isn't even the same thing.

Once a person's sensitivities are touched upon by key words or phrases, it seems some people turn off critical thinking and turn on reactionism.

I am willing to bet that Vassago already had shackles up before reading the posting, just having seen the subject. Her reaction to the rest was pre-determined.
We all fall into this trap on occasion.

This is a good comment. I think as JWs, since we're not really taught to be critical thinkers, that we are more apt to be reactionary. It takes a long while to learn to breathe and sit back when the hackles go up. At least it has for me. And I still struggle with it. As for this thread, I know Sixy personally and understand his sense of humor. People that don't know him well have a tendency to take him wrong. But I have a feeling he likes that.

Thank you valis for those links. I have read the story and I do apologize for dismissing it before i evn knew if it were true. I do apologize to larry for making this a heated discussion, all the while he has lost a child.

The two aticles i read was the lawsuit over the Blood issue. In his original post today he mentioned that the WTBTS were poisoning her. I didnt read that anywhere.

That was the "palliative care" that is mentioned that ultimately ended up killing her.

I agree with the blood issue. I would not except a blood transfusion. It appears from the article that his daughter didnt want to either. I read that even despit GETTING many blood transfusions it did not help her.

How do you explain the blood issue now that it's changed again? The blood fractions? Don't you think to the average JW it's confusing that it's okay to take fractions, but not whole? What happens to all those JWs (like Bethany) that died because of wrong teachings? Don't you think someone ought to be responsible for those deaths???
