but i was thinking, "surely some of the dubs would see something wrong with saying this.
" if you were at the hall, one of them would probably would cut in and say something asenine like, "you're not blessing him, jehovah and his holy spirit is...".
Yesterday, I sneezed and hubby said, "Bless you. Yay, I'm so happy I can go back to saying that to you again." I personally could care less either way.
its safe to assume that many jw's come on here and just read posts.
in fact i did it for several months before posting anything.
i have seen many, many helpful posts giving encouragement, etc.
(which last time I heard wasn't sanctioned as a proper place for good little jws in good standing to be)
No, they definately shouldn't be here according to their rules!
Pondering on my two family members and friends who are in and baptized, as well as others:
They are so brainwashed into thinking this religion is the end all be all if you want to have God's favor.
Thus, they use any fear tactics possible to try to persuade others to join or stay in once they've started studying.
They mean well (at least those I know).
They are very judgemental of those who are not jw's and feel as though they have a right to be!
Unknown to most, they see only darkness when it comes to what love really means.
so i suppose i should give a little background here first, since i am not very regular here.
i was in "the truth" for a number of years, my wife with me, progressing nicely and was even a ministerial servant.
however, after a while i just couldn't do it anymore.
I could certainly see why he would be happy. Nothing would thrill me more than having my wife decide one day to just stop going. I hold out hope every once in a while, when she is just too "tired" to go to the hall, but yet is not too tired to do the dishes, play with the kids, or stay up until 11pm.
Keep the hope up. I was laughing because you just described me! It's been so long since I've been excited about Thanksgiving...it feels good.
jws love to say they are a "free" people.
they are not enslaved by man made rules and regulations like other religions....how would you refute that idea?
Do not watch primetime dramas.
Witness as much as possible to everyone everywhere if you want to bring praise to Jehovah.
Do your best to show how wonderful "Jehovah's organization" is to your spouse so that he/she will take interest and come into the truth.
Oh yeah....Don't get a second job because you don't want to do anything that would take you away from the meetings or having your Bible study. (Even though I am in debt up to my eyeballs)

When I was still a JW my wife and I went to Thanksgiving meals at my non-jw sister's place a few times. It didn't bother us because we didn't see anything scripturaly wrong with it. But the society has said in the past that a sister? with an unbelieving mate? could go to something like this to "keep the peace". She just wouldn't say "amen" to any prayers that were said by someone there.
That's what I was told to do when my husband wanted me to participate in holidays w/his family. I felt so out of place, going from celebrating witht them to no longer doing it. Being a lump on a log trying not to enjoy the good feelings everyone else was experiencing. My "worldly" (we both hated that freakin name) husband is now thrilled to have his wife back.
how sad that the witnesses have nothing to celebrate.
the more i think about it since i stopped going to the meetings, the more i feel that spirituality and religion are about opportunities to give thanks and to celebrate life with family and friends.
christenings or name giving ceremonies celebrate the gift of a new life to a family.
When I first started studying, I was not told until later that holidays, heck nothing was celebrated. Me being in the post-traumatic state I was in just believed everything and held it to truth immediately.
Since I'd always had crappy b-days and christmas's, it didn't bother me to give them up. Now that I have kids (4 and 2), I see how much they're missing out on normal childhood activities I grew up with. Not to mention my husband (not religious) who has purposely kept all holiday-anything out of our home because of me studying. I thought to myself, "how long could he possibly continue to not take part in any traditions on account of me, while he believed otherwise?"
Halloween was the icing on the cake. It used to be my favorite holiday and really I hated giving it up. Never again, though!

i have just started to attend a church which i really enjoy and wonder upon wonders i did not melt upon crossing the threshold.
Welcome Mrs. Jones, from a fellow newbie. I was never baptized, either, and I've recently stopped studying after 4 years..realizing it wasn't for me. Finally, I'm free to worship God and not become a slave to the WT.
