This thread is so insulting to clinical research and the medical field as a whole, it's disgusting! Not to mention its deceased victims. It's as if science is a f'ing joke.

DO YOU THINK THERE'S A CURE FOR CANCER?
by Mary indo you think the scientists, doctors and pharmeceutical companies know of a cure for cancer that they're not telling us?
when you consider the leaps and bounds in medical discoveries that we've made in the last 50 years, it seems incredible that they're still using chemotherapy and radiation as the treatment for cancer.. while i was one of the lucky one who has survived cancer (so far), it's always in the back of my mind that it could return.
we all have friends who died before their time because of this rotten disease, yet the only progress that seems to have been made is that they can now 'detect' it earlier, which of course gives you a much greater chance of survival.. there have been stories of people who have been cured through alternative medicine, yet no one in the medical field seems to be interested in anything other than chemo or radiation.

Did You Like Your Congregation?
by minimus inthe hall i was in the last few years was not a bad place.
most of the people were middle class, some had college educations (like the po and his wife); they generally weren't over critical.
of course there were a few elders and publishers that were pains but for the most part the people in that hall were pretty decent.

My first one-not really. I was a new study, new & single mom, and not even close to having tenure like most people there. Everyone was working middle class to upper m.c., so I felt comfortable there. I just felt out of place being unbaptized-something that never changed.
2nd one-Didn't mind it too much. Most people were elderly and there were very few kids. We were a close congregation, and not just because we were squeezed into the hall like sardines double packed. I felt encouraged the most there.
3rd one-That was where I felt the most judged and I eventually left for good.

What do you think about that?
I think most people would have quickly died of a heart attack! Holistic research (and I use that term very loosely) should be handled outside of the medical profession.

Are you kidding me, SOOO much money WOULD be made in the cure!
Not if the cure was something the pharmaceutical companies couldn't whack a few patents on and charge the earth for
In the US and anywhere else it would be sold, that would be made public knowledge.

Has Islam lead to an increase in Atheism?
by nicolaou inever since 911 and the subsequent attacks in bali, madrid, and london it seems that everyone feels they have a licence to criticise islam (they do).
fundamentalist and many mainstream christians deride the backwardness of a religion that creates suicide bombers and 'honour' killers.
of course, it was only a small group of hardcore islamist extremists that carried out these attacks but the whole community has been tarred by them, and perhaps in some sense it is only right that the majority of 'reasonable' and peaceful muslims do accept the part they play in providing the soil for these people to grow in.

Along the lines of what nicolaou pointed out, any system that teaches lies and purports to be something that it is not is harmful and destructive.
And I hold those same views. I'm just playing
devil'sallah'ssome of my friends' advocate. -

Yet, if they remain silent they will lose what is most dear to their heart. How many must die, how many innocents will be allowed to have their lives ended by "nutjobs" within their ranks before the weight of their concscience prompts action? I wonder how they sleep at night or look themselves in the mirror knowing that others are stealing from them what is most prescious. When is enough enough?
I agree with you, Poppers, as well as your previous post. Mine was meant as an "I agree, and..." but I'd deleted a bit too much!
Brainwashing is very powerful. They hold their faith very true to their hearts. They can and are functioning fine while zealous idiots go around killing innocent people. It's like jw's fuctioning perfectly fine while kids die from needing blood and emotions are effected for life from covering up sexual abuse. Different scenarios, same principles.

THE VAST MAJORITY OF THE PEOPLE IN THE MEDICAL FIELD WANT TO HEAL.
Thank you!
I've had to argue with someone who says, "There's no money in the cure, there's money in the treatment." Having worked for a biotech specializing in Oncology, they put an incredible amount of time and money into researching a drug that didn't get approved. Not all drugs get approved for this!!
Are you kidding me, SOOO much money WOULD be made in the cure!

It has certainly caused a lot of people to really think about the need for a diety in their life.
The largely silent response of fellow Muslims to those who usurp its tenets is deafening. Unless, of course, its tenets actually do encourage violence, and then their lack of response makes perfect sense, making them complicit as well.
If you think about how you looked at things as a jw with doubts, where you knew things people did weren't quite right and did not think that way, let alone act on it yourself, then you understand why some people remain Muslim today. There are a lot of balanced individuals who still feel it is wrong to participate in what others consider a jihad, and those individuals use common sense-participating in their own religion while not doing the same as the nutjobs within it.
