Take swimming lessons, pay off my credit card debt, exercise regularly again, stop drinking so much, begin my screenplay, and lastly, to continue writing song lyrics, entering contests and actually putting them to music.

Your All Time Favorite Song- If You Had to Pick Just One ?
by flipper ini decided to do a couple fluff threads tonight as my threads have been way too deadly seroius lately !
so if someone told you to pick one song that was your all-time favorite, what would you pick ?
i'd have to say for me it has not changed since the 1971 hit by led zeppelin, " stairway to heaven ".

Justification of Violent Films
by inkling inthe recent post about "the passion of the christ" has gotten me thinkingabout violence in film in general, and i would very much like a fewperspectives on something... last year, after finally shedding the reflexive guilt that was instilledin me (by my wt steeping) towards violent stories, i finally saw a few iconic films, including a few from quentin tarantino.
(including reservoir dogs) now tarantino is know for his unflinching depiction of stylized violence.
(exactly the sort of thing that is specifically condemned by the wt) some film makers have this knack for making cruelty, death, and violence a odd spectacle of dark beauty.

Honestly, I can only tolerate violence in movies if it's something with soldiers (Gladiator) or police/mob (The Departed). I do mean, "tolerate". I have to be able to look past the violence and see a great film at the same time. Watching violence and horror for the shear joy of it - I can no longer stomach.

Sue, the thought of admitting everything makes me nauseous! I can only imagine how that felt going through it. I certainly do admire your bravery and hope to have the opportunity with quite a few of my family.
It's hard to break down and spill the beans about that. I'm calling my grandmother tonight. Since Christmas, I've been depressed about it but am ready to bite the bullet and push forward with that part of my life, no matter what the outcome might be.

I Am Legend JW email
by Descender inso my sister-in-law, who is a pretty hardcore jw, showed me an email that looked like it had been passed around quite a bit, so i figured someone on here had probably seen it.
supposedley it's a picture from the movie "i am legend" where will smith is walking through new york and all the buildings in the background are in ruins except for the bethel building, which stands out, undamaged and clean.
i watched the movie and don't remember seeing anything like that so i just figured that some jw photoshopped it and sent it out to the jw community to show that the bethel building is protected by god even in a post apocaliptical world run over with zombie vampires.

None of the buildings are destroyed in the movie except the ones Will Smith blows up fighting vampires at the end. The bridges were blown by the military to seal the city off for quarantine but there was no war to destroy the buildings. This was a virus emergency (as someone else pointed out) not a war so the Watch Tower buildings look like all the other buildings. JWs need to actually see the movie before they jump to these idiotic conclusions.

Tommorrow's Daily Text - this made me so mad!!!
by breakingfree inwell lets get off to a good start for the year by using jesus to justify staying with your abusive husband:.
thursday, january 3. when [jesus] was being reviled, he did not go reviling in return.
when he was suffering, he did not go threatening.-1 pet.

Similarly Peter indicated that some unbelieving husbands-even those who are abusive-will become Christians after observing the submissive conduct of their wives. We have seen evidence of this happening today. w07 2/15 2:11,12
It's sad that they do imply to stay with someone who is abusive, yet, they can always say, "we don't condone abuse blah blah blah." That statement does imply to me, "Don't call the cops at the first threat, or when he's punching you in your jaw, or choking you, or ever because he may not join us."

Maybe next year I'll make a Christmas dinner and invite some apostates over.
Not a bad idea, and something I thought about doing next year.
Getting together only reminds me of how little we have in common.
That's partly why I feel like I was purposely outed from the occassion. Unless they truly want me in their lives, it won't get any better. I've already done the unforgivable in their eyes. No freakin religion comes before family, EVER. Let alone one as backwards and f'ed up as the JW's.
I will definately be trying to revive the connections, ensuring they understand that I am out and where I am at now with regard to them. I'll see how things are next year, as some of you have suggested. In the meantime, I will post updates on any conversations with them.
I greatly appreciate all of your feedback on this-(((((every single one of you)))))!

Atheists - What is the meaning of life?
by Paralipomenon inpersonally i am a agnostic with a complete rejection of a personal god.
without the concept of salvation my belief structure states that when i die, very likely that is it.
no amount of good or bad deeds will extend my life past the point of my death.

A person must make their own meaning, IF they want one.
We're born, we live (you know, the seconds that are passing you by at this very moment), and like it or not, we die.

I think this all could very well be a misunderstanding, they may not realize how far you have left the JW's, they still may assume you dont celebrate holidays, and for the most part, most "normal" ie."worldly" people have no clue or understanding of the JW lifestyle.
This is what I am banking on right now.
The JWs were always very, very taboo to us. -
