We're not Suitable!

my husband and myself used to be witnesses, but not for quite a long while now.

every last member of both our families are witnesses so i guess we're the proverbial black sheep, but we haven't been disfellowshiped or have me disassociated, just drifted quietly away.. my husbands grandfather, who is ninety-seven now, suffered a stroke a year ago.

he spent several months in hospital.

Thanks for your thoughts everyone, we do appreciate them.

Outnfree - Grandpa was asked what he wanted to do and he said that his first wish was to live at home with carers coming in to help him and failing that he would like to live with us.

They said NO!

He came to stay with us for a couple of nights and his son threatened to have him sectioned under the mental health act if he didn't return to the care home. My father in law did not know that with our phone every one in the room could hear what he was saying to Grandpa and he said awful things about us and accussed my husband of violence in forcing him to stay at our house. The opposite had been true in that we had pleaded with him to go back to the nursing home because we knew it would cause trouble. But he wanted to stay with us and we let him.

However, the son does have the power to have his father sectioned and held so we did not want that to happen to the old gentleman and so the next day we took him back.

Maybe we were weak but I think sectioning would have broken him, and we knew how they could lie like Olympic lying champions.

Family Day??

mulan mentioned this on another thread and coincidentally, my daughter and i were discussing it today.

her jw boyfriend and his family have been talking about it...his little sister is making her list of gifts she wants, parents checking out the holiday flyers for good deals on video games etc.

i gather they get up early, have lots of presents and special meals and get together with extended family.

I never had gifts from my parents as a child.

The only time I received gifts was from neighbours when they celebrated Christmas.

My kids are goig to have a different life

Rock on Christmas, New Year, birthdays, November 5th, we even had fireworks this year!!!!!!!

On becoming a (shunned) person...

as i walked back from the bank to my car yesterday i saw an elder and his wife from my old, old congregation.

i waved, but they didn't see me.

they entered their car, backed up and i stood exactly two feet away from their window smiling and waving.

Congratulations! You've entered the realm of the 'undead'.

It's funny but you spend all your life as a witness fearing being shunned by friends and relatives and yet when it finally happens it's the most liberating experience imaginable.
I have promised myself that I will wave, smile and shout 'hello' to every witness I meet now except for the ones that I feel like shunning before they shun me, if you know what I mean.

We were always late for everything.

Rowdy all through the meeting with the kids either screaming, fighting, going for a piss, kicking the people in front or picking their noses. The older kids refused to sing, pray, pay attention, answer, smile, talk to anyone who talked to them.

Then we'd rush out the door like a bat out of hell before any 'nice' JW could come along and tell us how they really appreciated the effort we made to get to the meeting.

Then we'd fight in the car park mainly because of the sheer stress of the last two hours, though I would always fight with a smile on my face just in case any one was looking or could lip read!!!!

Then my husband would make the tyres screech as we rushed out of the car park like a bat out of hell, just missing the theocratically waving parking attendant.

Whoops! I think anyone reading this who's a JW is going to recognise me!!!!!

Blood and Food

i am well aware of jw doctrine concerning blood and its foundations in acts 15:20.. i am also well aware of how much discussion this has provoked.. could ex , or current , jw's comment on one aspect of this please :.

the ban on blood seems unequivocal and would seem not to leave any room for compromising.. in that case , would eating a piece of red meat be in violation of jw's beliefs?

presumably , it would , as even a well-cooked piece of meat would contain blood molecules.have any jw's raised this point with their congration's elders?.

I remember a talk at one assembly quite a few years ago now where the speaker said that if we ate meat that was cooked rare it showed we had no respect for blood as it was all over our plate so we should only eat well cooked meat.

Wasn't there a passage in the bible where some Israelites were killed for not bleeding and then not cooking their meat well enough?

Country-woman, thanks for the welcome and secondly we're working on the power of attorney problem as we speak.

We believe though that their real motives apart from our not being JW's is the money and we're worried we'll be accussed of being after Grandpa's money. This is non sense though as we've given him more money than he's ever given to us and the rest of them have always been badgering him for cash instead of giving him some.

We'll see!

What goes on in Africa, such as these abominable atrocities is what would go on anywhere in the world without, what we call in the UK, the thin blue line.

The thin blue line is the police force. It's what separates us only just from anarchy. There' s your problem in Africa. There's no accountability, not even for their usually corrupt leaders, no good justice system and so no hope. But we're all just a hairs breadth away from the same kind of treatment.

As imperfect as they are we should all breathe a sigh of relief that the members of the thin blue line are out there tonight because God help us if they weren't, and then he probably wouldn't either, just like Africa!

Actually it makes me so angry I'd like to go round and kick all their assses big time but they're all bigger than me, so...

We've been for legal help for the grandfather three times and solicitors have sat aghast at what we're telling them about how he was conned into signing the Enduring Power of Attorning. Whenever it's revoked he get's conned into signing another one.

It is ! Thank's Candidlynuts. We're sneaking about like a couple of spys trying to get to see him and finding out where they've moved him to next. The bust ups with the family have been really vicious verbally.
