You can't show it before hand on the internet then, can you? If it's hearsay, it remains that way until it's said. Maybe the net is getting to them.

What was your turning point?
by jeanniebeanz inwhat was it that was the real eye opener for you?.
for me, it was after watching the video, "jehovah's witnesses; a non-prophet organization," and the point on how the org puts itself in a place between jesus and mankind.
a position which does not exist scripturally.

Yes. Only my immeadiate family and me I'm afraid. My sister left recently for different reasons.
The rest are still totally brainwashed and believe that the sun shines out of super pioneer's backside.
My mother's excuse...'well she did give her lifts to the hospital. She wasn't horrible all of the time.'
I saw pure evil, and selfish cruelty that day. I saw what she was capable of and saw the act she was willing to put on in front of the brothers who visited.
Excusing her behaviour, to me, would be like saying, about a murderer, 'well he only killed her once. The rest of the time he gave her lifts to the hospital.' Does that make sense? It's what you're capable of allowing yourself to do that marks what you're really like.
Her zeal to pioneer was her fear of losing her survivalist potential. She was not getting enough hours in to feel that she was going to survive if Armageddon came tomorrow. She had missed the point of Christianity as so many, though not all , JWs do.

The day that changed my life forever... the day I saw a super sonic pioneer sister wonderful, treat a dying woman worse than a dead dog. She told her that she was having to waste her time looking after her when she should have been 'out there doing Jehovah's work saving people.' She told her she should stop messing up peoples life and that she was a burden to all of her family, because she wanted to die at home. She left her sitting helpless, cold and crying in a wheel chair believing that she was going to go to a hospice to die. She told me not to comfort or speak to her because she was 'behaving like a naughty child'. I comforted the dying woman as did the rest of her family. But that pioneer super hero taught me a wonderful lesson.
Then JWD and the rest is history!
I look forward to the fall of the evil WTBTS and those who truly love its self serving attitude!

You can't play lotto, but you can accept a lottery ticket.
by JH in.
can someone explain to me why a witness can't go and buy a lottery ticket for himself, but can keep a ticket they find on the ground or keep a ticket they receive as a gift from a worldly person.. that's the explaination the witnesses gave me when i joined many years ago.. if it's a sin to play lotto, why can they accept a ticket as a gift or keep one they could find?.

Because they're daft as brushes and not much of their reasoning makes much sense any way. Heaven forbid that you might be seen buying a lottery ticket! It would show that you were materialistic and greedy. It would show that you had no faith in the Kingdom being the only hope for the future and so no faith in God. But if you found one and you won. Well.... you'd better not tell anyone or they'd think you'd bought it. The elders would kick your ass for you....probably out of jealousy. You'd be marked...disfellowshiped and generally life would not be worth living.
However, if you have a lot of money and you gamble on the stock market.... even if you happen to be the WTBTS...then that's just fine!!

Green Bible/Black Bible...?
by Gill incan any one tell me what the 'significant differences' are between the old green bible and new black bible?.
having been a jw for almost forty years i never knew of a difference except that my mum is the only jw i know who still uses one.
is it possible that i could show her anything 'interesting'?

So far, it appears that the major thing they wanted to change was the 7000 year creation problem all leading to that unfortunate date of 1975. The rest appear to be minor language changes. But the sheer volume of changes in itself is interesting. Not to mention colour changes. Green, black, burgundy or maroon. Is it a publishing gimmick. People used to have a bible that lasted for their family. If there are minor changes is it so that a new one will have to be purchased?

Hi Onacruse,
I know that my mum has quite a few of the old publications because she would consider it sacriligeous to take them down to the tip, or throw them out. She used to study with an elderly annointed sister in the 1960's who gave a a lot of the old books from Russells and Rutherfords day. I have a sneaking suspicion, that when the congregation library was 'renovated' my dad took the old....old.....old original Watchtower and Golden Age Volumes. They are very big, with gold embossed writing and a very dark green colour. They also have some of the books with the scary pictures in that I was not allowed to look in when I was little. When they go on holiday, or maybe before I will have a sneaky look. Since they are seriously piss poor I may suggest I sell them on ebay. God! I can hear my mother's screams of 'NO!' just thinking about it.
I know I've mentioned this before when I've posted on here but my husband's family goes way back with the Witnesses all the way to Pastor Russells day. We had many of the old, first Bible students books. When we found the truth about the 'trooth' my husband scooted them down to the local tip so fast I hardly saw them go out of the door. We could have been sitting pretty now. Oh well!

Outbutnotdown, I hadn't realised that. Will take another look at it and see if she can understand it.

Hi there everyone and thanks!
I thought that I had read 'somewhere' that there were significant changes somewhere in the bibles but I was probably wrong or confused, ....as usual.
Happydad! That explains why my mum keeps a bogey green leather cover on her Green bible. But she has rarely missed a meeting or field service, like.....forever. Don't know if she has kept up with the Organization though as she does tend to have a few sensible views of her own.
Thanks again!
