so, i've been trying to find as many jw off-shoots, mostly personal reasons.
i never knew there were any until about two years ago.
i guess the wts did a good job because i didn't have a clue.

I had no idea there were so many off shoots. In a discussion I was having today, I said there were off shoots but couldn't name any. Just came up with religions with sort of similar beliefs. Thanks for the list. I now have a list of religions with even more similar beliefs!

You're probably right, Englishman. The very thought of a bunch of cult leaders deciding whether it's OK for my family to spend time with me makes me MAD!

The only thing that would make them look good is if they actually scrapped disfellowshiping and that will never happen.
They are so sure that they are 'no part of the world' and with 'keeping the congregation clean' that they need to be completely different to people in general even down to thought control. If relatives could actually speak to eachother once one had been disfellowshiped then ideas and thoughts would be exchanged and it would eventually break down the hold of the WTBTS.
It's the biggest tie they have on anyone. Do anything we don't agree with and you will never be able to talk or have a normal family life with your loved ones again.

I will go back and say to my parents that this was changed to a disassociating offence in 2000 and show them the BBC news report but am beginning to wonder whether it can penetrate their minds. The reason being, that when I gave them the phone number and name for the person at the UN they need to ring to find out if JWs had been in the UN they claimed that this 'person' could be the biggest liar on earth for all I knew and that everyone was out to get the WTBTS and Jws. Dense...or what!?

I think you're right there BluesBrother. The safety issue is perhaps the primary concern rather than anything scriptural. Something I have heard many times, including from my parents was that not taking blood is a way of Jehovah protecting 'us' from Aids and Hepatitis and other dangerous diseases. I've rarely heard anyone say, 'I'm so glad we don't take blood because it shows we hold life sacred'.

Don't know how I managed to miss that news release in 2000 on the change from disfellowshiping to disassociation for taking blood. Sounds more like, 'we'll punch them instead of hit them' to me!

some new information is going to be released, and its very very secret indeed.
we are not supposed to tell anyone what we heard at this meeting to the ones who have the meeting later the same week.
