why am i surprised on reading the latest watchtower, the april 15 2005?
i had thought that the wtbts would at least be cautious in making its prophecies now.
surely after over 100 years of failed prophecy you might be a bit more careful, or would you?.
One more thing I noticed in that article that was odd, was that 'the creator will create conditions on that earth that will favour long life.' What's with the 'long life' and not 'eternal life'?
my parents went to the assembly this weekend.
they were telling me about disciplining children... the speaker was saying how all babies are born selfish and demanding for their own needs and not anyone elses.
the jist of the talk being about discipline, and training children ...ie taking them out for a good beating.. well, i don't know if any of you have ever 'just seen red!
VM44 - More true than anything else I've heard today!

That is very true rebel8. As long as many of us can remember, Armageddon is just ahead of us and...it has yet to materialise. Sometimes, I forget that all it is is a business organization with a busy cult sideline. As long as the books are selling....

Hi all and Bluesbrother - It seems to be a 'fear' orientated cult that keeps drawing on peoples fears and then adds to them.
Hollys thread last week on 'The Good News Will be Preached and then the end will come...' in which she was asking who else preaches like the JWs do was interesting. Holly, it seems, is searching, and doubting, which is quite natural. However, the fact that JWs appear to preach, which is a sign of the end seems to be the only reason why some are attracted to the JWs. People seem to be attracted the the doom mongers of this world which is why apocalyptic cults seem to thrive amongst certain people.
Here the WTBTS is offering eternal life through its publications and the Bible and offering certain death to all who refuse. No wonder weak and confused, and people at vulnerable times in their lives are drawn to this terrible cult!

Hi JTP! I think it's the 'in your life time' line that really annoys me. I'm concerned for the really old JWs here having to face the truth of a wasted life time for a corporate advertising Lie.

Hi Gopher!
Yes it's always 'near' isn't it! But in this article they're again offerering the opportunity to Never die, yet again. How many old folk remember being told that in the 1920s and 1930's. One of my husbands relatives is dying. She says she wasn't supposed to die, they promised her. It makes me TOO sad and angry to see a 95 year old finally give up because everything she believed has turned to dust! The lies of the WTBTS and their false prophesying and misleading of ordinary people is a disgrace!

Here's what it says on page 4:
'According to the Bible the Creator will soon transform the earth into a literal paradise, which will favour long life. Bringing about that Paradise will invole drastick action, similar to that of the Flood of Noah's day. Matthew 24 B 37-39 shows that Jesus compared our time with the 'days of Noah', in which people ' took no note' of the critical situation. They also ignored the message that Noah preached. Then came 'the day that Noah entered into the ark' and the Flood destroyed all who had rejected his knowledge. Noah and those with him in the ark remained alive.
Jesus indicated that a similar 'day' is coming in our time. Those heeding the knowledge associated with this even will have the propect of not only surviving but also living forever. In addition, the dead who are in God's memory will be raised to life with the propect of never having to die again. Notice how Jesus expressed these two thoughts. When speaking to Martha about the resurrection of the dead, he said: 'He that exercises faith in me, even though he dies will come to life; and everyone that is living and exercises faith in me will never die at all.' All evidence shows that this day is very near, which means that you may 'never die at all'.
Doesn't this remind you of 'Millions now living will never die!' AGAIN!
The article then goes on to explain that the only way to gain this everlasting life which is coming soon is to study the 'What Does God Require of Us?' brochure or the 'Knowledge that Leads to Everlasting Life'.
So if you want to live forever you need to contact them and accept the opportunity to study the Bible!
Why am I surpised? Maybe I'm not really it's just that, do they really believe this?!!!!!!!
Do they never learn?
