  for me i just drifted there when i finished my degree and the girl i was living with at the time got a good job with hewlett packard.

  i tagged along and got a job within commuting distance.

  i don't really like the city i live in but i haven't bothered moving for the last 6 years through inertia i guess.

  my parents went to the assembly this weekend.

  they were telling me about disciplining children... the speaker was saying how all babies are born selfish and demanding for their own needs and not anyone elses.

  the jist of the talk being about discipline, and training children ...ie taking them out for a good beating.. well, i don't know if any of you have ever 'just seen red!

  Hi Trevor - Thanks. I won't give up!

  Ticker - I think you've hit the nail on the head as to why parents probably over react to disciplining their children, more so in the atmosphere of the KH. They are under immense pressure to have their children behave perfectly and make no sounds that would distract from the vomit being spewed by the FDS. Not only that, they fear that if they don't have complete and utter control of these 'selfish' little people, they will grow up to be and want to be worldly people who will be destroyed by Jehovah at Armageddon! Double pressure really and probably unbearable. Pushes normal parents to extreme limits of behaviour because they love their children so much they have to beat them so they won't die at Armageddon. Sad and screwed up reasoning.

  JW children do need protection from their parents and from the WTBTS! People should be aware of the teachings of this evil and destructive cult.

  Hi All! Sorry to be so long getting back to reading your posts....kids to feed,shopping to do etc!

  Crumpet - Oh yeah! I'm serious! As for having a relationship with them...yes I do. However, I both hate them and am cursed with loving them! Work that shit out!

  When I'm feeling particularly naughty I make a great effort to wind them up about the WTBTS. They can't get me now...I hope!

  Trevor - Did I ever ask my father to explain? Oh yes. My psychiatrist told me to do that. My father, and mother both called me a lying bastard! Then my father got seriously grumpy. He then, believe it or not did not speak to my Mother for three weeks and spent most of his time in bed sulking. My Mother kept ringing me screaming at me to come back and apoligise to my father for what I had said because he was taking it out on her. I told my psyc. who said that was typical bahaviour of an extremely clever emotional abuser. He was denying completely what he had done and attempting to punish me severly by his making someone else suffer.

  I did nearly a year in psychiatry and counselling. I was told, as I was suffering from severe, and I mean severe anxiety, and violent diahorrea.That my fear centre in my brain had been switched on for so long now that the natural reaction to fear was permanently switched on. All I wanted to do was go to the toilet constantly. I was told I had to leave the JW Cult that had caused the fear and challenge my parents. I did both. I'm OK. Thank you Doctor!!! But My God, it took a long long time. Unfortunately, when really horrific things happen to some people, their brain switches off to it to cope. However, a part of the brain cannot switch off. You experience the horror any way but deny it. That is what I learnt to do, just switch off every time. Then one day it all came back and switched on and would NOT go away. Years of terror, that could be felt every minute of the day no matter what I was doing was constantly replayed. How did my husband put up with me. Thank God for the NHS psychiatrist and brilliant counsellor!

  Brooke, I am seriously proud of you for intervening in that little child's beating. I wish I'd have been that strong all the times I'd seen that happening!

  I know child abuse is NOT WTBTS policy, however, their views on women and children and the wonderful superior position of men in the family allows all kinds of abuse to take hold. The women and children have NO help.. No one can go against the head of the house. Swallow that shit if you want but accept that is what it is.

  By the way, my father was an Elder in the Congregation. All the brothers and sisters were constantly telling me how wonderful and loving he was.

  Sorry you had such experiences, Crumpet. Your parents must have seriously had their minds twisted to such an extent .

  I was not a beaten child really. Just my mother used to go totally whappy sometimes and batter me into tomorrow....well maybe I was...but it was usually over some JW thing or other. My father was clever. He was threatening, usually with a knife to my throat.

  He used to tell me what he'd do to me, usually at dinner time, if I was ever bad. He even used to take me to the spot where he said he would do it, in the garage.

  He said if I was ever bad, and did anything that made them ashamed of me, he would take me to the garage, tie my feet up and hang me upside down. Then, he would put a bucket under me. Then he would take a sharp knife and peel all my skin off bit by bit until the bucket was filled with blood!

  By no means am I saying that all JWs would treat their children like this, but what I am saying, is JW policys and views on husbands and fathers rights, mothers responsibilities etc seems to allow deviant thinking and behaviours amongst those who are prone to acting in such a way!

  We have the same problem in the UK. We have enough money to bomb the hell out of other countries and kill thousands of innocents for their leader's faults but can we clean a hospital, fix a school roof, have enough policemen to patrol the streets and keep us safer, like hell we can't.

  Hi TheEdge - Yes, I agree with you about the benefits system but...just the same. Sometimes I wish we were hard and heartless just like the in -laws but then I realise, I'd rather be soft and thoughtful so..as I said before, what goes around comes around....we'll wait and see.

  At the KH, it's usually the mums that you see spanking/beating the kids, not so much the dads.

  I know there are some JWs who don't 'do' spanking, I have a cousin who would never spank any of her children for anything...bless her...however...the ones who do, whether it's law to allow spanking or not, are disciplining their children for doing absolutly nothing wrong at all. Who in their right minds would want to listen to two hours of boring crap? Certainly not a young child, or an older child for that matter.

  Reminds me of a brother who used to not allow his children any books or paper and pens or anything to occupy them and would not allow the tiny mites to fall asleep during the evening meetings even to the point of taking them out of the hall to wash their little faces with cold water. He had nine children, only two are still JWs.

  The actual turning point -- where you regain your own power

  i have done a lot of thinking about what it's like to actually believe the wts has "the truth" and what it felt like to be immersed in the religion and i finally figured out the exact turning point a person has to get to, that allows a person to let go of it all.. it doesn't matter what scandals you read about, what sort of a victim you were to the society, it doesn't even matter if you quit attending meetings years ago.

  there comes a day when you finally realize inside your heart and throughout your mind that it's just a religion.

  not "the truth," not "inspired by jehovah god," but in fact just a religion.. i started thinking about it in terms of a profession.

  JTP you're right about letting go the anger. However, I have all my relatives just about, are still JWs so I have to listen to crap from my parents. I now get very cross with them and let rip when they start talking about their cult teachings. Though I feel angry, I feel I am saying what I should have been saying to them all these years!

  JTP - I think that's what pressed my ANGRY switch on ' babies are born selfish!' I said but surely that's the way God made them, to cry when they had needs. Parents said,'No, it's because they're born imperfect!"

  Roll on the New System when babies are born perfect then, and change their own nappies and get their own bottles and wash themselves etc. No need for crying then. Jehovah's Witnesses are a bunch of crap eating bullshitters with saw dust for brains! I know! I used to be one!

  It reminds me of the young sister I grew up with. Nice enough girl. But when she was pregnant she would regularly slap her bump, quite hard and shout 'stop it!' when baby kicked. I asked her why, and she said she was training baby to be obedient now and getting a head start. Just as some read My book of bull shit stories to train their kids. I kid you not. I doubt the mentality of JWs. They should NOT have children!

  I believed it, strongly!!!!

  I always wanted to see over the hill and what was coming next. But now I know it's all LIES and I'm getting my head round it. Finally I'm living every single day of my life!

  I wouldn't have wanted to live forever with Jehovah's Witnesses any way, and I'm not kidding about that!
