Jehovah's Witnesses have tried - and failed - to get an advance copy of the Abuse in Care Inquiry's final report into their church.
The Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses Australasia (CCJWA) filed an urgent claim in the High Court in Auckland on 21 June to obtain a copy of the final case study relating to the religious denomination in the inquiry's report, but the claim was dismissed.
It also unsuccessfully sought all relevant underlying documents supporting the case study.

"But Mark McCumber, a local Jehovah's Witness who's known to most people as a professional golfer who won the 1988 Players Championship, said the biggest challenge isn't unfriendly people so much as it's people being too busy to talk.
"We're here to help people build better families and a better relationship with God," he said. "But nowadays it's a challenge to find the time to talk."
Jehovah's Witnesses, who have been around since the 19th century, are probably most well known for their door-to-door evangelism, refusing military service, not celebrating Christmas and declining to say the pledge of allegiance.
But McCumber said their religion is more than that.
"We're all loyal citizens," he said. "Except when it conflicts with our beliefs." https://www.jacksonville.com/story/lifestyle/faith/2012/05/25/jehovahs-witnesses-walk-walk-inviting-guests-3-day-convention/15865935007/

I don't think that Eisenhower was a jw (or Bible Student). His mother was and it is possible that the teachings were discussed in the family. But he was never a formal member, baptized as a jw. I call people like that Jehovah's Witness Bystander. (someone who had family that were jws or associated with jws, but never was baptized; not to be confused with someone who was baptized as a jw and stopped associating)

Kingdom hall cleaning
by Farmer Jim1 inwhat are your memories of hall cleaning?.
i actually enjoyed it on the whole, my dad as the elder always tried to keep it to under one hour but in my later years in a hard-line congregation it was a chore.
the po's wife had a printed list and we had to complete it all before left (or got disapproving looks if we left after an hour).. as well as vacuuming the whole building the lost said you had to dismantle the vacuum and clean and polish all the internal elements.

New World Translation Study Bible: Matthew 21: 31,32 31 Which of the two did the will of his father?” They said: “The first.” Jesus said to them: “Truly I say to you that the tax collectors and the prostitutes are going ahead of you into the Kingdom of God. 32 For John came to you in a way of righteousness, but you did not believe him. However, the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him, and even when you saw this, you did not feel regret afterward so as to believe him.

The WTS once taught that the "great tribulation" started in 1914 and took a hiatus in 1918, to start up at a future time. That shook up some jws.
"11, 12. In 1969, what readjusted view of the great tribulation was presented?
11 However, in later years we have come to see things differently. On Thursday, July 10, 1969, at the “Peace on Earth” International Assembly in New York City, F. W. Franz, then vice president of the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society, gave an electrifying talk. In reviewing the previous understanding of Jesus’ prophecy, Brother Franz said: “The explanation was given that the ‘great tribulation’ had begun in 1914 C.E. and that it was not allowed to run its full course then but God stopped World War I in November of 1918. From then on God was allowing an interval for the activity of his anointed remnant of elect Christians before he let the final part of the ‘great tribulation’ resume at the battle of Armageddon.”
12 Then a significantly adjusted explanation was offered: “To correspond with the events of the first century, . . . the antitypical ‘great tribulation’ did not begin in 1914 C.E. Rather, what took place upon Jerusalem’s modern antitype in 1914-1918 was merely ‘a beginning of pangs of distress’ . . . The ‘great tribulation’ such as will not occur again is yet ahead, for it means the destruction of the world empire of false religion (including Christendom) followed by the ‘war of the great day of God the Almighty’ at Armageddon.” This meant that the entire great tribulation was yet ahead." WT99, p. 16, par. 11,12.

I heard before beard approval, that because some black men had a skin condition that made shaving painful (razor bumps), that some were given a dispensation from not having a beard. But, I never knew a black male that got that dispensation. "The upcoming Governing Body Update, set to be released on Friday this week, will feature a bearded Samuel Herd." Just thought of this when reading this.
