Whose truth? Howard was married to a jw, but was never one himself. He divorced that wife. So what truth does he mean?

I remember in my research I stumbled over these things, found by accident that is. What surprised me was not that he said it, but so many members of the WTS did not have a lightbulb moment. If that isn't cult speech, I don't know what is, and it makes him more like the single leader of a cult characteristic that the WTS says a group has to have in order to be a cult, thus the WTS was a cult back then by their definition.
After Fred Franz died, the cult around a single person knowing all or being the conduit finally died. Since the institution of the "elder" arrangement cut Fred's legs under. Now the GB members probably have many battles with each other as to who are the ones at Christ's left and right hand.

The biggest mistake.
by Half banana ina long time ago, before television radio and films, before printing, before the invention of writing, people listened only to the spoken word—and the cry of birds, the wind whistling through the trees and the sea crashing on the sea shore.
before written text they knew about the gods because high up there in the night sky was where they lived; gods, goddesses and immortal heroes.
the constellations told of their exploits.

Even if a "scrap" was found, if it was even written 100 years later by someone who had never met Jesus or knew someone who had, not many would believe it without other corroborating information.

Compensation claims against Jehovah’s Witnesses could be jeopardised: lawyer
by Tahoe inhttps://www.crikey.com.au/2019/09/12/compensation-claims-jehovahs-witnesses/.
dr judy courtin explains to inq why the destruction of documents could have huge ramifications for victims inside the jehovah’s witnesses.. an order by the jehovah’s witnesses in australia to destroy confidential records could undermine a child abuse compensation claim currently being prepared for the supreme court of victoria.
a lawyer representing the victim says she was shocked to learn that the christian body had ordered confidential documents, including notes taken by elders investigating child sexual abuse, to be destroyed.
-

Yes, destroying records is a crime, but first those in the legal system have to prove that it was done, by whom, independently or by direction from the WTS. With the WTS climate of lying and concealment, that could be difficult.

Annual Meeting
by Lynnie inmy uber cousin and wife are going back to wallkill this weekend for the annual meeting since they have a daughter and son in law in the inner sanctum so they are always invited.
cousin said it was going to be broadcast from patterson to wallkill.
anyone hear anything else about subject matter etc?.
-
blondie
Lynnie, are your cousins Jewish by birth. Usually jws cannot come in unless that prove their heritage to the Israeli government. I don't think people can come in who have conversion of Jews in mind. I'm sure they will conceal their intentions.

Can Jws get a stem cell transplant?
by greenhornet ini have a friend of mine who is a jw is getting one.
its sad.
its going to be sad if he is going to be destroyed by jehovah for doing this..

There is no mention about stem cell transplants in WTS publications. But I found these comments.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/29795417
Tandem autologous transplants are generally the preferred therapy for newly diagnosed intermediate- and high-risk myeloma patients. More Jehovah's Witnesses (JW) are receiving single autologous peripheral blood stem cell transplants (PBSCTs). However, tandem autologous transplants have not been reported in JW patients.
http://www.bloodjournal.org/content/124/21/3976?sso-checked=true
Autologous Stem Cell Transplantation without Hematopoietic Support for the Treatment of Hematological Malignancies in 125 Jehovah’s Witnesses
High dose chemotherapy (HDC) followed by Autologous stem cell transplant (ASCT) has been shown to provide curative benefit in patients with relapsed lymphoma and multiple myeloma, often times requiring hematopoietic support until marrow engraftment. Due to Jehovah's Witnesses (JW), refusal of blood products treatment challenges arise.....(the rest of the article is an explanation how to treat jws)
There are many more articles with a good search "Can jehovah's witnesses have a stem cell transplant"
----italicized part is probably why jws can take it as cell as from a single lot from the patient being treated. The primary difference between allogeneic and autologous are the source of the cells for the therapy. Allogeneic therapies are manufactured in large batches from unrelated donor tissues (such as bone marrow) whereas autologous therapies are manufactured as a single lot from the patient being treated.

leonard cohen
by peacefulpete ini admit i have a soft spot for leonard cohen's music.

I heard that song sung by several other people before I made the connection to Leonard Cohen. Then I purchased a CD of his with that song on it.
I watched a show on PBS where various famous singers each sang one of his signature songs. k.d. lang sang Hallelujah.
A better way of looking at life with its ups and downs, a crack in everything.

The impact and consequences of being born into the jehovahs witness cult.
by RayoFlight2014 inhi from new south wales australia.
fyi , it's tuesday 10th september 2:36am here.. i am categorically not going to blame the cult for every poor choice.
i am conscious of the fact that i was at a genetically determined disadvantage academically; i was never going to be outstanding in my achievements, no matter how hard i tried.

@Finkelstein,
The WTS has done a dance around and says that Jesus has known when the GT will start since 1914 maybe
QFR 1975

Does Jesus Christ know when the “great tribulation” will begin?
He may, but we cannot say definitely that he does. (but then---)
Jesus foretold a “great tribulation” that will wipe out the wickedness we see around us. As to the time for this destruction, Jesus said: “Concerning that day and hour nobody knows, neither the angels of the heavens nor the Son, but only the Father.”—Matt. 24:3,21, 36-42.
Hence, when he was on earth as God’s king-designate, Jesus Christ did not know the set date for the beginning of the “great tribulation.” He died and was raised to heavenly life at the right hand of God, awaiting the granting of full authority to rule and to ‘dash to pieces’ the nations. (Ps. 110:1; 2:6-9) Fulfillment of Bible prophecy indicates that he received that authority in 1914 C.E.; his “presence” began then. Ours, thus, is the generation to experience the “great tribulation.” (Matt. 24:34; Rev. 11:15-18) Jesus also knows that, just as he knows how far along we are in human history since the creation of Adam and Eve. (but Satan does too since he was at the creation of Adam and Eve per the WTS)
What is Jesus now doing? Revelation 6:1-8 shows that in 1914 C.E. he “went forth conquering and to complete his conquest.” Mankind’s wars, food shortages and pestilences prove that this is the time when he is moving toward the completion of his conquest.
Jesus will lead the heavenly armies in the “great tribulation.” We are now deep into the period known as the time of the end, so God may already have made known to Christ the full battle strategy and schedule. But if Jesus has not yet learned the “day and hour” to “complete his conquest,” he soon will learn it.
WT 2016
https://wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/2016527#h=12:0-12:894
But Christ has been empowered in heaven to wage war against Satan’s world. (Rev. 19:11-16) Thus, it is reasonable to conclude that Jesus now knows when Armageddon will occur. We, however, do not know. It is imperative that we stay watchful until the tribulation occurs.

Do You Think People Have Forgotten About 9/11?
by minimus inafter all these years, it seems to me that people do not properly take note of what happened on this date in 2001. for some, it’s like nothing major happened.
for me it is a day of reflection..

Even President Trump made a slip and called the date 7-11 not 9-11.
https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/donald-trump-7-11/
It has been 18 years since that happened. I wonder how many people have been born since 9-11-2001? How many were even old enough then to understand it, live through it.
I remember where I was on that date, far from home, not being able to sleep, I turned on the news and saw the news and woke up my husband. We stayed up until the last tower fell, packed up and drove to the nearest military installation (I have contacts). Then we stayed there until things started calming down. Commercial airlines/airports were shut down and many people were stranded and the phones were flooded. We had a van, so we found people that were heading in our direction, piled them in with their belongings, women and children. And drove 2,000 miles dropping people off as we went. Now I will never forget that. I knew how bad it was as soon as I saw the planes and the first strike. I grew up around jets and know what a fully fueled jet crash looks like.
I will never understand what people went through when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor; but the relatives back a generation did and shared their experiences and feelings. If your experience with an event is just through books, news, etc., long after the fact, it will never be the same as talking to various people from many walks of life or living it yourself.

Cringe in December
by neat blue dog inoh boy, the meetings lined up for december are culty.. it all starts with a 5 minute talk someone has to give on the topic "why should we not be troubled by the increase of memorial partakers in recent years?".
the next week again inserts jws into bible prophecy, first with "the earth swallowed up the river", which claims that court victories for the org are really god's doing.
there is no mention on who is responsible for the many judgements against the org.. then there's this chart to be discussed that same night:.

But all partakers are not genuine anointed per the WTS. The WTS has said that shortly into the new system, survivors would be provided lists of those who really went to heaven.

● Will the great crowd of “other sheep” who survive Armageddon know whether their companions of the remnant proved faithful and gained the prize of immortality or not?—F. C., United States.
Yes, it seems reasonable to conclude that just who comprise the 144,000 members of the body of Christ will be common knowledge to those of the “other sheep” living in the post-Armageddon new world. Relevant thereto is Psalm 87:5, 6, which reads: “And respecting Zion it will be said: ‘Each and every one was born in her.’ And the Most High himself will firmly establish her. Jehovah himself will declare, when recording the peoples: ‘This is one who was born there.’”
That this should be the case is most reasonable. Certainly at the present time we know, because of the Scriptural record, that certain ones received Jehovah’s approval in times of old, which information is encouraging to us. So for those of the post-Armageddon new world to know that certain ones proved faithful and received the glorious reward of immortality would likewise prove an incentive to faithfulness to them. Their faithful devotion would be recalled by those that knew them, in keeping with the principle stated at Hebrews 13:7: “Remember those who are governing you, who have spoken the word of God to you, and as you contemplate how their conduct turns out imitate their faith.”
