I do remember those, but it was discontinued because congregations were comparing themselves with other congregations as if it were a competition..

Did anyone really enjoy assemblies?
by SydBarrett inthe twickenham post made me think of this.
i have a few jw family members on facebook and being summertime, their pics of the convention have shown up in my fb feed.
along with their comments about "i wished it would never end" or "what a glorious weekend".

No, I did like some of the food. I took notes commenting on what was fake and contrived (I took a lot of notes, used shorthand though).

The assembly’s principal talk, “Will Serving God Solve Your Problems?” also dealt at considerable length with marital problems. (1976--Sacred Service District assembly)
At a district assembly of Jehovah’s witnesses in Laurel, Maryland, an educated man acknowledged: “I

Only Jehovah’s Witnesses
I think this says it clearly enough: "Only Jehovah's Witnesses, those of the anointed remnant and the "great crowd," as a united organization under the protection of the Supreme Organizer, have any Scriptural hope of surviving the impending end of this doomed system dominated by Satan the Devil." Watchtower 1989 Sep 1 p.19
But here
What do people need to do to be symbolically marked for survival? (Ezekiel 9:4) They need to react favorably to the preaching work that is taking place, put on the Christian personality, dedicate themselves to Jehovah, and loyally support Christ’s brothers. Those who do these things will receive the mark of survival during the coming great tribulation.--Watchtower 2016 Questions from Readers p.17
What is the mark? It is the evidence, as if displayed on their uncovered foreheads, that such sheep are dedicated, baptized disciples of Jesus Christ and that they have put on the Christlike new personality. These sheeplike ones become one flock with anointed Christians and assist them in their vital work of marking still others.—Watchtower 2008 7/15 p.5
In ancient times slaves were often marked on the forehead to be clearly identified. Distinctive marks on the forehead and elsewhere might also show that a person worshiped a certain deity. So, in our day, what is the distinctive, lifesaving mark that clearly identifies its bearers as true worshipers and slaves of Jehovah?-Watchtower 1987 4/15 p.11
The mark” is the evidence that they are dedicated to Jehovah, baptized as disciples of Jesus, and involved in cultivating a Christlike personality.-Worship the Only True God book Chap. 13 p.120

How does God communicate with Jehovah's Witnesses?
by Vanderhoven7 ingilles gray writes:.
the short answer is, god communicates with jehovah’s witnesses very poorly indeed.. jehovah’s witnesses are the first to affirm that god doesn’t directly communicate with them at all.. however, this fact doesn’t stop them from making the baseless assertion that god communicates to them through reading the bible, through holy spirit and through their leaders (known as the governing body, or the faithful and discreet slave).. here is a claim made by one of the first leaders of the watchtower organisation:-.
communication through reading the bible.

Good point, Sea Breeze. I'm sure the concept that Eve was deceived by an angel escapes jws.

In my area 6 regional conventions are being held at a local Assembly Hall over 6 weekends. The AH can only hold 2,000 to 2,500 people using the auditorium and seating in the old cafeteria area.

"How Long Would Jesus' Reign Be?"
by BoogerMan insimple enough question for a jw to answer, because the org has told them for over 100 years that, .
a) jesus would reign for 1000 years, and.
b) that his reign began in 1914 when he became king.

slimboyfat, I agree with you. The time from 1914 to now is not part of the 1,000 year reign. The WTS has discarded the teaching that a creative day is 7,000 years, but instead says thousands of years, and has not used that concept since 1987 (except a quote from a pre-1987 WT publication) but without any comment in the publications on the change (or in talks). I remember that was changed in a Tuesday night study book, and older witnesses missed the change, and were surprised when it had been edited in the new edition. Disobedient older jws had not discarded the old copy and gotten a new one. Newer jws adults/or in after 1987 had no clue. 2021 comment "So each of the six creative “days” during which God prepared the earth for life and created life on it could represent extremely long periods of time." 2006 "The fact is, the Bible reveals that the creative “days,” or ages, encompass thousands of years." 1988 "Hence, the evidence shows that the entire period of six days should be viewed as tens of thousands of years long."

Treatment of Those Trying For Reinstatement
by Vanderhoven7 inwhat happens when a jehovah’s witness who has been disfellowshipped returns to attending the meetings again?.
mark jones writes:.
if it's the same congregation that they previously attended then, yes, the congregation will remember who they are and so continue to treat them as dead or invisible.. one of the identifying marks a cult is that it uses shame and humiliation to control members, to keep them from leaving and manipulating those who escaped into coming back.. a disfellowshipped person is never allowed to quietly leave with dignity.

As to reinstatements, there used to be a period of time after that where if the person re-offended they would automatically df'd, not another judicial committee. They called it probation. I found this quote about how long after reinstatement, could one be approved for auxiliary pioneering (1983) "Questions have been raised as to how long one must wait after a reproof or reinstatement before qualifying for appointment as an auxiliary pioneer. Since all pioneers are required to be exemplary in conduct, this privilege may not be extended to one until at least one year has passed following a reproof or reinstatement from disfellowshipping or disassociation. All restrictions imposed by the judicial committee must already have been removed." (Restrictions put on people during after reinstatement could be not being allowed to comment at meetings or be on the theocratic school, men not being able to give prayers at meetings, etc.) 1970: Probation "Nor is that all. For a youth associated with a truly Christian congregation such a deed might well result in his being disfellowshiped, being cut off from the congregation. And if he seeks reinstatement, he must show his sincerity by attending congregation meetings with no one speaking to him, all the while giving evidence of repentance. Then he would be put on probation for a time, and for years thereafter he would be denied special privileges and advancement in Jehovah’s organization."

In days gone past, the person's name was announced, the sin they were df'd for, and it was announced in all the neighboring congregations as well. The WTS changed that probably for legal reasons.

In this area, the local Assembly Hall is being used for regional conventions spread over 6
weekends. That building has only seats for about 2500 with all the seats filled. Things are a-changing.
