"I've strongly suspected that the 2008 crash caused the org very serious financial losses via their hedge funds/stock market investments, resulting in near-fatal cash-flow problems.
Hence the property sales and unbelievable & punitive cost-cutting and money grabbing strategies invoked - to stave off Wall Street creditors.
Still believe this." (I do too, I worked with the banking system at that time and had NYC contacts daily, and they agreed that happened to many. Cash flow problems big time!)

Balaamsass, Memories...staying on the A train too.. long and getting off the train in Harlem one night alone. One kindly passerby suggested "Son, get right back on the train" seeing my puzzled Irish face on a Harlem St corner.
Take the A train....just not too long.
"
I was quite ignorant about how things were in a big city. In my case it was an older black woman, who went with me on the subway until I got to a place she felt was safe. (I remember Bethelites telling me to have "mugger money" and not to go in certain parks... ""Is THAT in the Bible" I was brave enough to ask that question, respectfully.

Know it’s not true but stay anyway
by Elena inhow many of the millions of jws know it’s not true but stay anyway?.
my guess is most jws know it’s not true on a subconscious level to an extent but they don’t want to think about it too much and would never ever voice it out loud.. but this is probably true with all religions around the world?.

Remember using the term BORG to refer to the WTS
by blondie init's interesting that when watchtower is referred to as the borg, it immediately brings to mind the scenes where individuals such as captain piccard are held prisoner within a vast collective hive type prison and unable to leave.
they are then turned into drones.
in fact here is how wikipedia explains it.. the borg are a fictional alien group that appear as recurring antagonists in the star trek franchise.

My greatgrandmother was from Sweden, an immigrant, but she was gone before I was born. Children of immigrant parents were not encouraged by their parents to learn the parents native language. By the third generation, children were eager to learn the history and the language. There are many festivals in WI that honor their heritage."
- Immigrants from Northern and Western Europe: Starting in the 19th century, large numbers of immigrants arrived, seeking new opportunities in Wisconsin. Notably:
- Germans: German-speaking immigrants formed a significant part of the population, particularly in the 1850s. They established communities and cultural institutions, like those highlighted by the Max Kade Institute for German-American Studies.
- Scandinavians: Norwegians, in particular, had a strong presence in Wisconsin, with many settling in communities around the Rock River Basin.
- British: Immigrants from England, Scotland, and Wales were also prominent, with settlements in the southern part of the state.
- Other European Groups: Belgians, Dutch, Swiss, Finnish, and Irish immigrants also contributed to Wisconsin's diverse population. "

WT AUGUST 2025: NEW LIGHT ON HAILSTONE MESSAGE : IS IT BIBLICAL OR JUST CONVENIENT?
by raymond frantz inhttps://youtu.be/n_fttvylm-m?si=l44406ohysubkajr.
so today we are considering, the watchtower's new take on the "hailstone message", and if you don't know what that is , they used to believe that according to revelation 16:21 they would be preaching a hard hitting message during the time of the end.
now, let's read the verse first from the new world translation: "then great hailstones, each about the weight of a talent, fell from heaven on the people, and the people blasphemed god because of the plague of hail, for the plague was unusually great" now this is their new understanding as it appears from the 3rd paragraph from their new watchtower study edition for august 2025 and their article:when will the preaching work end, has this to say: "our clarified understanding of matthew 24:14 also adjusts our understanding of the hailstonelike message foretold at revelation 16:21. further examination has revealed that the two scriptures complement each other.

"The Borg no longer permits recording devices for assemblies & conventions..." Too much of that showing up on places like JWN, I'm sure. The WTS probably doesn't have writers skilled enough to take the SOS and make it look/sound different; perhaps a savings goal, just reprint old magazines.

@blondie: nobody "carried away" the Jews. DNA evidence is quite clear, people with what we call Jewish origin have lived there for thousands of years in what the Romans called "Syria-Palestina"."
I guess I was influenced by some things I read in Josephus writings. Some Jews did get away and were not taken to Rome and some were deported to Carthage. But as a religious national entity no mmore even more complete than when a vassal, that seemed to be gone, probably why the UN and other nations supported this the following. (I felt it was guilt over not really doing anything to save the Jews in Europe, knowing what was happening to the Jews then.)
- United Nations membership: Israel was admitted as a member of the United Nations on May 11, 1949.

I thought that too, Beth Sarim, amazing considering that frequents "adjustments" the WTS makes.
