Did you ever use these?
by Bumble Bee ini was cleaning out a closet today and came across some book bags.
when i went through them i found one of those bic pens that has the four different colours of ink, red, black, green and blue.
i used to use them to mark my wt different colours for the a and b portion of the answers etc.. anyone else use these?.

yeah, I remember being excited when they came out with those 10 color pens. So many more options! I remember that when we started the Revelation Book at the bookstudy, I decided I was going to underline all of my answers using a ruler, along with the multi-colored pen. It looked pretty fancy. I think all of the fancy underlining must have helped distract me from how illogical the content actually was.

How many true scholars/scientists are there really among JWs?
by zagor inthis is a question i've been puzzled by ever since my days in the borg.
everywhere i looked i saw tradesmen, cleaner, auto-mechanics here and there some computer technician.
and i do know there are two doctors, one gp and one specialist in the field of drug rehabilitation.. i've heard stories of some being true scholars though.

An elder in a congregation I attended had a doctorate in planetary geology and worked for the USGS. He actually designed a portion of the mars rover, I think. He's written at least one article for the awake.

who escapes more often, those born into it or adult converts?
by kid-A inwhat strikes me on this board is the number of adult converts that have left the borg, either fading out or getting df'd.
from my experience (i was born into it, 2nd generation, left before getting baptized) most of the faders or escapees were also like.
me, born into it, never really accepted it and just bowed out at the first opportunity.

I was almost born into it. My mom got baptized when I was 2. It took me 8 years to leave after I got baptized, though.

anyone watching the tour de france?
by lucky inwe've been watching it on oln.
if you're watching, do you want lance to win?
or are you rooting for someone else?

Yeah, I'm watching stage 11 at the moment, too. I agree, yesterday was just awesome. My husband's been rooting for Jan Ullrich (I think he does it just cause I'm rooting for Lance, and for some reason it really bugs him that Lance weighs his food (although he definitely approves of the Sheryl Crow as girlfriend thing!)) But even he had to admit that Jan's days are probably numbered. We always watch the three hour recap in the evening and have to avoid the media all day so we don't accidentally see or hear the results. Usually it's not a problem since cycling isn't too popular here, but yesterday they kept bringing it up on NPR when I was driving home from work (and I had to quick change the station), so I figured something big must have happened!

Putting an offer on a home........(law ?)
by love11 into make a long story short- last saturday, we put an offer down on a house.
then sunday and mon.
we did some research on mortgages and decided that we could get a better rate of interest if we waited till next spring to buy a home.

I was under the impression (at least in our state) that even if your offer is accepted, you have 24 hours to change your mind about signing the contract.
If you HAVE already signed the contract, having recently gone through a hellish house-selling experience in which three subsequent buyers backed out of their contract with us (and we only received the deposit on one of them, and only then after we took him to small claims court), I can say from experience (at least in my state) that the law is definitely in favor of the buyer. Another option, if you have already signed the contract, (less than ethical, in my opinion, but it was used on us) for you is to go ahead and pay for the house inspection, and make sure that the inspector finds something unacceptable with the house. You can either flat out refuse to buy the house because of the defect (depending on what the defect is - this will probably be listed in the contract and may include pests or repairs over a certain dollar amount) or you can demand that the homeowners fix the problem. If they refuse, you can legally back out of the contract. Not pretty, but it was used on us (the inspector said that the house had "massive" pest damage, (which was later confirmed by an actual pest inspector to be non-existent), and the buyers sent us a letter saying they were no longer interested in buying the house. We had no legal recourse against the buyers and we didn't get to keep their deposit.
I know from experience that buying a house can be a big strain on a relationship. My suggestion is to go make up with your hubby and not stress too much. I think it will all work out ok...

Why are beards so bad?
by bother_forever inwhats with the idelology behind jws that "bro's" with beards are undeserving of privledge and advacemet in their f**cked up org?
what jesus never had facial hair?
i remember hearing comments like " yes he's a lovely bro, but he'll not be used by the cong because he needs to shave his beard".
-
lucky
my younger brother recently grew a beard. I think it's his passive-agressive way of avoiding privileges in the cong. He used to do the mikes and work at the literature counter and say prayers, and conduct the meeting for field service, etc., but they've taken all that away since the facial hair appeared.
