PORTER TOWNSHIP | A Valparaiso woman was arrested on a battery charge after she was accused of attacking another woman inside the Jehovah's Witness Hall at 198 W. Division Road.
Janiene Griselle, 36, of 3602 Timberbridge Drive, Valparaiso, was taken to Porter County Jail at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. She faces a maximum of a year in prison if convicted of the battery charge. Porter County police also ordered her not to return to the church. The victim, a 30-year-old Valparaiso woman, told police she was in the main sanctuary when she was told Griselle wanted to talk to her in the bathroom. The victim said she went to the bathroom, at which time Griselle stated she was sleeping with the victim's boyfriend.
The victim said Griselle screamed at her to leave the man alone, but the victim said she told Griselle she didn't want to discuss it at church. The victim said she tried to leave, but Griselle blocked her path and then slapped, punched and kicked her. The victim suffered scratches and a bruise before a man entered the bathroom to break it up, police said.
Police said Griselle admitted she lost her "cool" and would have to "live and learn."
If Griselle returns to the Valparaiso-area church, she faces arrest on a criminal trespass charge. Police issued a trespass warning at the request of a church elder. -

Rutherford and William Jennings Bryan
by VM44 indoes anyone know where it mentioned that rutherford was involved in william jennings bryan's presidential campaign(s)?
also, i recall reading that rutherford said bryan was god's choice as president for the usa!
if that was so, then it is very strange that bryan was never elected president!.

Rutherford was not only campaigning for a politician, he was campaigning for a religious leader as well!
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/amex/monkeytrial/peopleevents/e_gospel.html
American fundamentalism and the social gospel are two distinct religious movements. Both began in the early part of the 20th century. Both sprang from Christianity's attempt to deal with modern problems. Yet they had radically different goals. As politician and religious leader, William Jennings Bryan played a prominent role in both movements.

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/amex/1900/peopleevents/pande34.html People & Events William Jennings Bryan
Despite a long and distinguished political career, William Jennings Bryan is best known for the decisive defeats that he endured. He was nominated three times to represent the Democratic party as their presidential candidate. Three times he was defeated. Known for his quick wit and mastery of spoken language, Bryan was a stirring speaker. In 1896, he railed in support of the coinage of free silver and the end of the gold standard: "You shall not press down upon the brow of labor a crown of thorns. You shall not crucify mankind upon a cross of gold." Bryan looked upon the wealthy with great suspicion and warned against the unchecked powers of the trusts. Responding to the plight of striking coal miners in Pennsylvania, Bryan said "Whether a man is a laboring man, a farmer or a merchant, he must see that the opportunities are constantly narrowing under this trust system." His campaign against William McKinley in 1900 centered largely on his opposition to McKinley's conduct regarding the war in the Philippines. Condemning what he termed US imperialism, Bryan asserted, "If we steal a man's purse we are thieves. If we steal twelve hundred islands we are patriots. If you steal a man's money you will be sent to the penitentiary. If you steal his liberty you will be sent to the White House." Political observers noted that Bryan was sometimes too forceful a speaker; he ended up scaring, rather than converting, large numbers of voters. Andrew Carnegie, who sided with Bryan on the Philippines issue, decided, "Mr. Bryan is much too earnest, too sincere and true to be entrusted with power, filled as he is with ideas subversive of economic laws."
Following another failed presidential bid in 1908, Bryan was named Woodrow Wilson's Secretary of State in 1913. He resigned from that post, however, in 1915 to devote himself full-time to the cause of American neutrality during World War I. In 1925, Bryan led the prosecution of John T. Scopes, a young biology teacher charged with breaking Tennessee law by teaching Darwin's theory of evolution. Squaring off against noted defense attorney Clarence Darrow, Bryan attempted in vain to defend his literal interpretation of the bible under Darrow's wilting cross examination. Humiliated and weakened by the stress of the trial, Bryan died one week after its conclusion. -

Dr Phil - Mennonites/Hutterites - brainwashing
by Scully indid anyone see the last 2 episodes of dr phil concerning the abduction of two girls by their father into the remote mennonite communities in belize?.
it was interesting to hear dr phil describe the girls' affect as being "flat" and that something just wasn't right.
the mother believes the girls have been brainwashed into the "plain" lifestyle.

I agree with you Blondie, I wouldn't doubt that one bit!
*************************************************************
The Hutterian Brethren or Hutterites are a religious group originating from the Reformation of the 16th century (www.hutteritehistory.org) .
It is interesting to note that the Hutterites and Mennonites (and thus the Amish) share common roots. Both of these sects are Anabaptists and both of these movements trace their beginnings to the same period of time, to the same occurrences, during the Reformation.
Their roots are found in Switzerland where a group of Bible students came to the conclusions that:
baptizing babies is not biblical.
the Bible requires the separation of church and state.
a Christian should not wield the sword (pacifist)
the Lord's Supper is symbolic of the suffering of Jesus, and should be done in remembrance of him
These 4 points became the basis for this movement. The followers of this movement are known as the Anabaptists or re - baptizers . They are called rebaptizers because they were baptized a second time, in adulthood .
The religion of the Hutterites is unique in their belief in the community of goods in which all material things are held in common. This idea is gleaned from the teachings of Jesus, where he explained to the rich young ruler what he needed to do to receive eternal life (Matthew 19); from the fact that Jesus and his disciples shared everything (John 12); from the early church where the apostles and their followers held all things in common (Acts 2: 44-47). Hutterites believe community of goods is the highest command of love.
All members of the colony are provided for equally and nothing is kept for personal gain. Hutterites do not have personal bank account; rather all earnings are held communally and funding and necessities are distributed according to one's needs.
Hutterites attend a 1/2 hour church service almost every day besides a 1 to 1 1/2 hour service every Sunday and common religious holiday. In addition, special services are held for baptism, marriages, Christmas, and Easter

Hutterites are a communal people, living on scattered bruderhöfe or colonies throughout the prairies in North America.
This communal lifestyle finds its roots in the biblical teachings of Christ and the Apostles . Emerging as a distinct culture and religious group in the early 16th century , this non-resistant Anabaptist sect endured great persecution and death at the hands of the state and church in medieval Europe . However, the Hand of God remained on the shoulder of these people, and their descendents survived to battle on to this very day. [Watchtower 2005 August 15th p. 25]
Jesus, the Mediator of the new covenant, did not personally impart a written code of law to his followers. He sounded down Jehovah’s law into the minds and hearts of his disciples by the things he said and did.
Cheers!
