Does anyone have the Watchtower that question was in? If not there is no way to prove it is from a JW.

Cats a JW no-no?
by Confession ini stumbled across what appears to be a website maintained by a jw circuit overseer.
on it he includes what looks like a question from readers.
it has very strong things to say about the 'beastliness' of cats--and why christians should consider whether or not it is proper to have them in our homes.

Daniel 9:2 Daniel refers back to what Jeremiah said at Jeremiah 25:11. So where does Jeremiah say Jerusalem will lay desolated for 70 years. He doesn't, what he says is" they will have to serve the King of Babylon for 70 years". Also you notice daniel says "devastations" not "devastation". Jerusalem was devastated more than once in that 70 years of Babylon World. WTS even agrees in their vol. 1 Isaiah's prophecy on page 253 that Babylon had World power for 70 years. they agree Babylon fell 539. add 70 to 539=609. now 609 down to 537 is 72 years. This is enough to show they don't know what their talking about. They even contridict theirself in their Daniel book on page 50 par. 9 and say Babylon had World power for 86 years. And on page 131 par.6 they say Babylon had world power 68 years. Its easy to see the 70 years refers to SERVING the King and not Jerusalem just by reading Jeremiah 25:11. Ask them where does Jeremiah say Jerusalem will lay desolated for 70 years. They can't so thats why they always go back to Daniel 9:2. Tell them to check the Isaiah and Daniel books out and see what they say than.

Why are honest questions considered apostasy?
by Rayvin inthis is why as i was growing up (raised in "the truth") i never asked questions.
i never understood the birthday issue among other holidays.
i never asked because i was scared i would be looked at as an apostate or as someone being worn down by the wicked association.

The truth is they don't have the answers to back up their ideas in scriptures, so they use fear to keep the questions from being asked.
Jeanniebeanz, that is so true. My son had a question and they would not answer it. They told him he done too much research and disfellowshipped him and labeled him an Apostate.I was going to prove to my son the organization was right so I done a lot of research and found the organization to be wrong. Not only are they wrong but THEY are the Apostates and NOT the ones they say.So sorry to have raised my kids in that because I don't know if the others will ever see the truth.Thats the price you pay when you get involved in a cult.

OK, Dsniel 9:1 says "in the first year of Darius and his first year was 539 so Daniel knew Jeremiah had said [Jer. 25:11] they would serve the King of Babylon for 70 years. And he knew after 70 years of serving the King, that God would accomplish what he promised and let them return. He used Cyrus to conquer Babylon in 539 and Cyrus issued the degree in his first year for them to return. When Babylon fell in 539 they could no longer serve the King of Babylon because he was dead.If you don't believe that organization, why do you want to try to explain what they will never agree with History on. They know their wrong because I have already went through this with 2 elders.I left the organization about 3 years ago. I waisted my best years in that cult. Did you know they were part of the UN for 11 years and when they were exposed they withdrew from it. They also own 51% of a company that makes war weapons and they invest in the stock market and one thing they invested in was Philip Morris cigs. Yet they will DF anyone who smokes. They are nothing but a bunch of hypocrites as well as Apostates. If you know they are wrong and i am sure you do, just get out and leave them alone.Don't even worry about how to explain anything because you don't have too. Besides no one will listen any way. Most JWs love the organization more than the truth.

they did return in 537 but Jerusalem was NOT laid desolate in 607. Go to history and encyclopedias for the desolation of Jerusalem. Have told you that 70 years has NOTHING to do with the desolation but THAT is how long Babylon had World power and different nations came under the controll of Babylon at different times during Babylon's 70 years of World Power. Go to any Encyclopedia on the internet and type "Babylonian Captivity". Maybe they can make you understand. There is no need for me to say anything else.

if they were kicked out in 587,and they were gone 70 years, that would mean they returned in 517. right?
Hellrider, the 70 years represents the period of Babylonia's greatest domination. They had world power for 70 years. Different nations came under that domination at different times. The Bible does not say they were gone 70 years. The Bible says at Jeremiah 25:11 is saying "they will have to SERVE the King of Babylon for 70 years". Now read verse 12 it says "when the 70 years are completed, God will turn his attention to the King of Babylon AND that NATION".God turned his attention to Babylon in 539 when he had cyrus to conquer it.AT Isaiah 23:15 it says "Tyre must be forgotten 70 years, the same as one King" [the Babylonian Empire] Tyre was among the nations that was singled out to drink the wine of his rage..read Jeremiah 25: 17-22. The only place you will ever read they were gone for 70 years is in the WT publications.Again the 70 years has NOTHING to do with the desolation of Jerusalem. When Babylon fell in 539 that was the end of their 70 years of world power. 609-539=70 years. That organization is a cult and is run by Apostates.

When do the 70 years start and when do they end?
Martorii, Read Jeremiah 25: 11. It says "these nations will have to serve the King of Babylon 70 years".2Chronicles 36:20 says the captives will serve Neb. and his sons UNTIL .the reign of the kingdom of Persia. that reign begin in 539 with Cyrus. To find out when the 70 years begin add 70 to 539= 609. Encyclopedias will tell you Jehoiakim begin to rule in 609. The Bible says he ruled almost 11 years with Jehoiachin finishing the last 3 months. The next KIng was Zedekiah who ruled 11 years .609 minis 22 is 587.That is when Jerusalem was desolated. 587 down to 539 is 48 years. 48 and 22=70 years. So the 70 years begin 609 and ended 539. When Cyrus issued the degree for the captives to go back to their homeland and they arrived in 537 if you subtract 537 from 587=50 years Jerusalem laid desolated. The WTS says Jerusalem was desolated in 607 and they carry that down to 537 and say Jerusalem laid desolated 70 years but the 70 years has nothing to do with desolation. the Bible makes that clear. It is talking about serving the King for 70 years. Just another one of their lies.Revelation 22:15 fits them perfect"who ever loves or tells lies will be destroyed".

Reliable Bible chronology is based on certain pivotal dates.
Stillajwelder. You certainly sound like one. And you can use 539 and go backwards from Nabonidus up to Nebuchadnezzar and find that Neb. begin ruling in 605 and not 624 as the WTS claims.

7 times in daniel
stillajwexelder, That 7 times in Daniel chapter4:18-22 has nothing to do with God's Kingdom. Daniel said it represented King Neb. and 7 times would pass over HIS rulership. Page 87 of the Daniel book. The WTS on page 94 par. 24 contridicts Daniel and says the "tree" represents God's rulership and that prophecy in Daniel says it represents King Neb. But WTS uses this to throw 607 at you and you have to believe them or you are labeled an Apostate. That organization is built on the 1914 doctrine and they have to have 607 to get 1914.Every encyclopedias and History says Babylon desolated Jerusalem in 587 not 607.Society agrees 539 when Babylon fell and the last 4 Kings of Babylon ruled:counting backwards, Nabonidus 17 years,Neriglissar4years. Evil-Marduk 2years and King Neb. 43 years. A total of 66 years.WTS says King Neb. begin ruling in 624 yoy can not get 539 using that date. History says King Neb. begin ruling in 605 Starting with 605 as 1 year down to 587 is 19 years. 2Kings 25:8-9 says the 19th year was when Jerusalem was desolated. So simple really.
