Since there are many hundred of millions of people in the world who would likely view this situation the way the OP does, I can't think of any reason why they should be assumed to be a troll. It's a mark of the insularity of conversation on this forum that any poster with views outside the narrow forum consensus is simply assumed to be speaking in bad faith: that they are not only wrong, but they can't possibly even mean what they say. It's weird when you think about it. I have no idea the OP's background or sincerity, but the idea that a poster with views like this can't exist, must be joking, or must be a troll, is just weird.

Engaged Couples Living Together
by ILewis inmy question is this.
is it wrong for a jehovah's witness to allow an unmarried couple to live together under their roof?
same room, same bed, they are allowing full on cohabitation.

$5.5 Million to be transferred to World Wide Work from Assembly Hall fund
by Sour Grapes ina letter was read tonight in our kingdom hall that the money that the circuits in the indianapolis area had in savings to build a new assembly hall will now be transferred to the www to build kingdom halls in lands where they are needed and a new assembly hall for us will not be built.. we had a beautiful assembly hall near downtown indy that was paid for.
it was sold a couple of years ago.
we were promised a new assembly hall to be built in southern ohio near the indiana border but they can kiss that goodbye now.

Actions like this can surely only have the effect of reducing donations in future. Because, obviously, if people are donating for something, only for it not to happen, and the money be taken away, then they are not going to contribute as much in future.
What is more, Watchtower surely realises that behaviour like this will reduce future donations. Which must mean that Watchtower has such a desperate need for the cash in the short term that they don't mind jeopardising donation levels in the longer term.
Plus saying that the money will be used for KHs in poorer lands is just gratuitous. How many JWs will actually believe that? A significant number of JWs are going to think to themselves: "is it not bad enough that Watchtower is confiscating money we raised locally for an Assembly Hall? Do they need to lie to us about why they're doing it as well?"
Some people have claimed that Watchtower has lots of money at the moment because of the sale of Brooklyn properties. They claim that Watchtower cutbacks are prudent and not a sign of desperation. Moves like this, confiscating an Assembly Hall fund, do not indicate prudent long term strategy, they indicate measures of last resort, or panic.

Sounds to me like desperate measures by an organisation in serious financial trouble.
Would be fantastic if someone could get hold of a copy of this letter for the record.

The book burning has started
by pale.emperor indon't know if this is a global thing but i've just been told by a pimo member of my old congregation that a min servant has been given the task of destroying all old books/literature in the kh library prior to 1992.. could be the elders (or even one of them) on a mission to stamp out dissent as my ex-wife used the same reasoning to her elder dad that i used in my jc: rutherfords books containing failed predictions.. anyone else heared anything?.
the ms who's been given the task is a company man.
no hope of him keeping them or selling them on ebay.. they have some russell books in that library too.

There was a BOE letter that gave a choice to keep a library or else make a computer or tablet available in the KH. Elders were to make up their own mind. It said space might be a factor, but surely most KHs have room for a library, even if just one wall of the smaller room.

Praying in the name of Michael the archangel instead of Jesus
by krismalone injust wondering what would happen if a brother saying a prayer in a meeting did it in the name of michael the archangel instead of closing the prayer with "jesus christ".
since jw's believe michael is jesus would he be counseled?
what if a brother used the name michael the archangel in their public talks instead of jesus?

Jesus said to pray in his name.
Many in the early church identified Jesus with Michael, JWs are not unique in making that connection.

As TD said, they only changed their view on this once. Their earlier view is complicated, but it didn't switch back and forward as the list suggests.
We had an old sister in our hall who didn't accept the new light and still insisted the great tribulation had already begun.

Pillowgate makes headlines in Finland
by Festus inlocal newspaper in finland has published an article concerning wtbs:s "pillowgate@ videos.
the local "communications manager" of jehovah's witnesses - veikko leinonen - has declined to comment them.
according to him they are for internal use only.

It's "out of context", I suppose, in the sense that it's only intended to be seen by fully indoctrinated JWs at the core of the organisation, not for outsiders or less committed members to scrutinise. And in that sense, it's good that it's now being viewed out of context. Because it gives an insight into the minds of those at the heart of the organisation.

A conversation with M. James Penton (Watchtower historian, author and former elder)
by oppostate injohn cedars' youtube channel has a new video interview with james penton.
lloyd asks some good questions and jim provides excellent insights about jw history and where the movement may be headed.. i had the pleasure of meeting jim and his former wife, now passed away, at the christian believers conference (of bible students).

Jim Penton did post here, and as on Chanel C he was most interested in liberal politics, and the Israel/Palestine situation. If it wasn't really him, whoever it was did a good impersonation. But I'm convinced it was him.
