Sex and Rockets - Strange Angel CBS series and Charles Taze Russell
by truthseeker ini'm watching the cbs series strange angel.
it is based on a true story about jack parsons, who along with others, pioneered rocket development in 1930's america.. "strange angel, a drama series created by mark heyman (black swan, the wrestler) and based on george pendle's book of the same name, explores the dramatic intersection between genius and madness, science and science fiction.. the story follows the life of jack parsons, a mysterious and brilliant man in 1930s los angeles, who by day helps birth the entirely unknown discipline of american rocketry, and by night is a performer of sex magick rituals and a disciple to occultist aleister crowley.".
the jet propulsion laboratory is derived from jack parson's initials.

Ha that’s fantastic! There is of course a whole genre of alternative history type books that love to make such weird and outlandish connections. Given the size and ubiquity of JWs it’s not at all strange that they should be included. I have sometimes thought there would be great scope for a Da Vinci Code-style mystery featuring JWs in all their wackiness. In fact I started a thread along those lines a few years ago that included the JW pioneers stopped at the Swiss border with billions of dollars in US bonds, the Methuselah Foundation (founded by a JW), Venus project, underground tunnels, and so on. All good conspiracy stuff.

When WWII ended, how difficult was it for the JW's that had been in prison to adjust?
by Sobeit inmy husband seemed to have a hard time..

A common statement when I was growing up was that some JWs who survived prison in Nazi Germnay later drifted away from the truth after the war because they became “weighed down by materialism and worldly influences”. The lesson for us was supposed to be that we must endure the world’s influence because it can be a bigger test even than outright persecution.

Universal sovereignty on trial

they explain that satan challenged god regarding his right to rule.
god failed to prove his right to rule.

Post appeared hours later and can’t edit for mistakes:
Like I said, there is circumstantial evidence to suppose that he uses his terminology correctly, in that there are many videos of him discussing his ideas with other smart people from various backgrounds, including Dennett and Murray. If he was throwing around quantum theories and string theories Chopra-style, you’d think someone would have pointed it out.

Fred Franz Former Training in Ancient Greek
by Wild_Thing inhas anyone been able to verify that fred franz received the minimal training in ancient greek that he claimed gave him the expertise to translate the bible?
you would think that would be fairly easy to verify or disprove in this day and age.
what college did he attend?

Yeah people conflate the two. Fred Franz lacked the qualifications, but apparently had the ability to perform translation from Hebrew and Greek. It’s notable that scholars who wrote hostile reviews of the NWT tended to criticise Franz’s translation judgements and English grammar, rather than his apparent understanding of the source languages at a basic level.

shepherdless, if you asserted a financial adviser had used the word “asset” wrongly, or a lawyer had used the word “discovery” wrongly, it would be reasonable to ask what the correct definition is and how they used the word wrongly. If you cannot do this, then on what basis can you say they used the words wrongly?
I’m sorry when you said “I wonder if he even knows what the terms mean”. I really thought you were implying you had some good reason to suppose he was not using the words correctly, and that you could enlighten me about where he had gone wrong. I was ready to learn something.
I didn’t imagine it was an idle statement of innocent wonder about the world. Such as “I wonder if there’s a train somewhere that is three and half minutes late”.
Maybe Hoffmann used the words correctly or maybe he didn’t. But seriously, if there is no good reason for suspecting one way or the other, or we are not in a position to say, then what’s the point of bringing it up?

The Creator Book was pretty good. I heard it was written by Jack Barr. Or was that Lloyd Barry?
