Atheists - How Did You Become An Atheist After Waking Up?
by pale.emperor ini consider myself an atheist.
and right now i'm reading a lot on atheism in general (books written to answer creationists).. i'd be interested in knowing how you became an atheist after leaving the jws and how long did it take?
was it instant or did your belief in a deity gradually decline?.

I read The Blind Watchmaker already around the year 2000 (on the banks of the river Ness on a summer day) and that dented my faith. It certainly made me think again about evolution. But the height of my atheism was a result of the Bozing Day tsunami in 2004. I could not believe God would let this happen. But since then I’ve become much more skeptical about whether God exists. Ironically it seems that being an atheist requires too much faith.

Reaction to baptism figures
by neat blue dog intalking about tomorrow's wt study, that mentions over a quarter of a million baptized every year, a jw asked how many that is a day.
i got out my calculator and answered over 778 a day.
of course they were amazed at the growth, but immediatly i googled another statistic and read it aloud:.

I just checked: the peak year for baptisms was 1997 when 375,000 were baptised with the average publishers number at 5.3 million. Incidentally - this was the year I was baptised. I got in at peak JW.

At their peak JWs were baptising over 1000 people a day for a few years during the 1990s.
Which is all the most striking when you consider there were only 5 million JWs then compared with over 8 million now. Meaning the rate of baptisms in proportion to the size of the community has reduced dramatically.

Some cheerful ones...
yes all men are crying
for all men are dying
none from the grave
his life can save
all his life is misery
...or close to that

Yes, of course. You can’t beat lyrics like these, I was just singing this today:
we must have the faith that the Bible does revive
we must build such faith if God’s war we would survive
do we have a faith accompanied by works
this kind of faith preserves our souls alive
we're not the shrinking sort God will destroy
but we are the trusting sort God will employ
thoigh ever so many foes against us arise
faith in Jehovah we must exercise

"You owe Jehovah humility and HONESTY" - an email from a JW
by Wake Me Up Before You Jo-Ho inhey forum goers.
i'd like your opinions on constructing an email reply to this shocker below.
bit of background about the sender: she is a middle-aged, cheery uberdub whose siblings left when a schism occured in her congregation in canada way back when.

Sounds like she’s really saying: “you owe me a life of adherence and agreement with Watchtower because that makes me feel better about myself and my own choices in life.”

As regards the trend, what would be really useful would be to have the numbers from before, during, and after Lett made a special appeal for funds in 2015.

There’s no way JWs contribute £50 a month on average. In a nearby congregation it’s around £450 for the congregation and £250 for the worldwide work per month. That’s £700 divided by 45 publishers equals just over £15 per publisher per month. I guess you need to add direct giving and legacies to that, but I’d be surprised if that brought it even to £20. Probably that congregation is below average but not a complete outlier.
