consequences for going against the direction.
by jehovaxx inthere are no serious consequences for doubting the gb.
there are no consequences for going against the direction.
we can now celebrate anything.. what will happen if you take blood, celebrate xmas and birthdays ect?.

The change is the appeal committee is allowed to arrive at the their own decision about the repentance of the individual based on their own assessment, not merely review the earlier decision of the original committee. This seems like a major change, but like everything else about these announcements weâll need to see how it pans out in practice.

The change to the appeal procedure is pretty significant. In fact maybe itâs the most significant change when you think about it. Because in the past an appeal committee was only allowed to overturn the decision if they were convinced that the original committee had been wrong about the person not being repentant at the original judicial committee. In other words it was not good enough if the person had become repentant meantime, the only function of the appeal committee was to assess whether the original judgement had been correct on the day, not to make a new judgement in light of any new expressions of repentance. In practice it has been reported that appeals very rarely overturned the original decision, and only in cases that were so clearly wrong or, more likely, damaging to the organisation in some way if processed that the circuit overseer or branch got involved to reverse the decision.
The new procedure sends out the clear message that the GB wants elders to avoid disfellowshipping people at all costs. Because now the appeal committee is allowed to reassess the repentance of the person at the second committee and, reading between the lines, encouraged to actively look for signs of repentance in order to avoid disfellowshipping, which is as different to the old appeal procedure as you could imagine.

I wouldnât get too excited, JWs are already practiced at the art of âmarkingâ people they consider âspiritually weakâ and enacting the âsoft shunâ.
In a way it could be worse in certain situations, because whatâs worse somebody who wonât speak to you at all, or someone who will act as if theyâre friendly but consistently keep you at armâs length?

Is the fight over?
by nicolaou ini'm still digesting these changes and i think i'll reserve judgement for some months until we see how it all plays out in reality.. however, if the disfellowshipping process really has been de-fanged and shunning is beginning it's retreat into the society's past then what excuses will there be in the years to come for anyone who wants to leave?.
i can almost understand why they've done this.
more carrot, less stick.

I donât think it goes anywhere near far enough. As it stands there will still be a lot of shunning, including minors.
Plus thereâs no change to shunning apostates, which could be interpreted as anyone who doesnât believe any more.
As you say, weâll need to see how it plays out.

What Book is Required for Baptism Now?
by LeeMerk inis it this "enjoy life forever - interactive study guide"?
.
is there a second book also?

No I donât think there is a second book. The Enjoy Life Forever is pretty long and seems to cover things that were on the old United in Worship book.

GB Update #2, March 2024: Women allowed to wear pants, no ties/coats required if not giving a talk, & now able to greet DF ones in the KH!
by WingCommander inyou heard me correct, this is not a joke, and it is not april fools day!
the asl portion of the governing body updated #2 (march 2024) has been released a bit early and someone caught it.
summary: .

The changes are so profound that hardly anyone will ever be DFed and shunned for more than 90days ever again.
90 days isnât too much of a threat now
Unless itâs for apostasy. In that case the 90 day rule doesnât apply, does it? And the hard shunning continues.

Beards vs. Shunning announcements
by slimboyfat induring lettâs announcement that beards are now allowed he elaborated at some length how brothers ought to feel and react to the change in policy.
he warned brothers not to resent not being able to grow beards earlier if they had wished to do so.
he also warned brothers who supported the old policy not to allow themselves to wonder what the point of doing so was now that it has changed.

I think this is spot on given there have been meeting items on shunning and folks were crying in the audience.
Have you seen that happen? How did the elder handle it?
I did see a sister run out the hall crying when her daughter was disfellowshipped, but not during a Watchtower.
I read about another âfunnyâ case, if you can call it that, where the announcements were being handled by an older brother who was not on top of things and he mixed up names and announced that a regular pioneer sister had been disfellowshipped by mistake. That pioneer sister ran out the hall crying and the elders had to apologise. -

Yet when Sanderson announced the change to how disfellowshipped people are treated he didnât elaborate on how people might feel about the change and how they should react. Is this because the Governing Body believes people will be more upset and conflicted about the beard change than the change in how disfellowshipped people are treated? This seems unlikely. Maybe they recognise that it such an emotive subject for many Witnesses who have totally shunned relatives for years that they better tread carefully.

Just a thought
by Gorb inis the change in jw dress policy a way to make the changes in df policy easier to accept?.
a way to devide?.

I did notice that in the broadcast Mark Sanderson spent 90% of the time talking about disfellowshipping with a short statement about dress at the end. Yet most of the JWs as far as I can tell are talking about the dress change and not the statement about disfellowshipping.
