  what happened to jehovah’s witness young men and why did it happen?______in the 1960s men of draft age were called upon to either serve in the military (during the vietnam war) or to comply with the alternate service option: serving in a hospital or community in need.. non-jehovah’s witnesses were faced with only one refusal: military service.jw boys and young men were instructed (in private) to refuse the alternate civilian service as well.

  the superior authorities had made this exemption for people of conscience.the law was clear on this.

  if we worked in a hospital community we would be free to go about our witnessing ministry - if we double-refused: we would languish in prison.a no-brainer to them.

  I was caught up in that. I graduated HS in 1970 and got number 18 in the Draft Pick. I didn't think I was going to get by that one. I consulted with several people and was advised to apply as a Conscientious Objector. Opportunistically, I was also told that while accepting alternative service (i.e. working in a hospital) was a matter of conscience, it would not be looked upon favorably.

  I had to appear before the local board at least twice. They interrogated me but would not let me use the Bible. I don't think I was very convincing or the men on the board were ultra-patriotic. Ultimately, I was denied and had to arrange to go to the Appeals Board, the last stop.

  After Nixon had promised to end the war in order to get re-elected, I had to go to Fort Dix, NJ to get my physical exam. While there and having a mild cold, I was issued a classification (I can't remember what it was) evaluating as a deferment.

  So, I didn't have to go. Nevertheless, that did not ease the anguish I faced with the options of having to go to jail or leaving the country and being separated from my family. That would come to be in play later.

  It was many years after that I ended up writing to the Society regarding the Malawi - Mexico issue. I put it in terms so they would understand the dilemma I had faced while now learning that it's a matter of conscience for Mexican JWs to bribe someone for a military card.

  The bastards never answered me.

  Whatever happened to NewChapter?

  i found a doc with a link newchapter posted several years ago.

  she was writing about violence and abortion and gave quite a few stats.

  The one that always gets me is that Noah did not have a child until he was 500 years old. What did he do for 499 years? If he wasn't hiding the salami, he was surely greasing his staff. That story is more ridiculous than the flood.

  Does he really have a sex problem ?

  like many, i’ve been bemused at lloyd evan’s excuses/reasons for his lusting after prostitutes.

  apparently, as he claims in his disastrous video, he blames his wife for being inadequate between the sheets.. could the real answer to his ‘problem’ be closer to home?.

  perhaps if he consulted a medical person or even a sex therapist he may learn his “problem” is not down to the borg at all, it may simply be caused by his weight i.e.

  Sexual incompatibility may mean many things. Perhaps one likes oral sex and the other does not want to give it. It could be that, due to past repressive upbringing, a person only wants and performs "missionary". The level of dissatisfaction may bring strain into a marriage or relationship. For some people, it takes an elaborate session of foreplay to get it up and going. If you need some pom-poms or a strip-tease to get your rocks off, it should be worked out between the individuals. If it can't be worked out, then there is some sexual incompatibility.

  Still, that's something that should be worked out privately and is no one else's business. If one strays after years of not getting what he or she wants, a paid service will probably give it to them. Sexual habits are hard to break. We criticize the controls the JWs have placed on us regarding sex and most of us agree that it is none of their business what a couple does in private. I don't see why criticize Lloyd's actions, even if we don't agree with them. It was a private matter that seems to me was outed by someone else out of spite. There was no need or urgency to reveal his personal foibles.

  For Lloyd and for his marriage to continue, something has to change. But if it doesn't, life can go on in a different manner and with somebody else who is more compatible. I think it's easy for some of us to make determinations about his conduct without understanding the conditioning and pressures an individual goes may have experienced.
