I'm half tempted to take him...
Alas, I am 1000 miles or more away.
Sounds like he'll make someone a wonderful companion.

this weekend mozz and i went out of town to visit some of his family.
this morning on our way back home, we decided to meet some of them at a little truck stop restaurant to have breakfast.
we got there and noticed this little dog outside of the front door.
I'm half tempted to take him...

i just returned home from the kingdom hall.
i am an elder.. after the meeting all the elders were called to the back room.
i thought this was an impromptu elders' meeting.
My wife cried for a while but she is okay now. The kids are napping.
I wonder why she cried...
Is she concerned about the added stress that will be placed on her to be the perfect mother with perfect babydoll children?
Or she is concerned about her own potential loss of status within the congregation?
Or is she feeling guilty that her 'inadequate' parenting style is jeopardizing your position and that she is therfore letting you down??
Please know that I consider this to be bunk and am in no way criticizing. Just wondering where her emotions and thoughts are.
And, it was, in my opinion, appalling for you to be the sole focus of the impromptu elders meeting. Rude to put you on the spot like that.

i mean stuff that is right now, this minute on your table or desk, not something you might read someday?.
my desk is currently littered with;why won't they listen?
ken hamwhat the cults believe.
I just finished reading: Revenge of the Middle-Aged Woman. LOL. I thought it would be Erma Bombeck-ish. It wasn't. But it was an ok read for me.
About this time last year I started Crisis of Conscience. Got enough info to confirm what I was learning about the org and just haven't felt a burning urge to plug on. But it still sits out. Highly visible and accessible.
Smart Women Finish Rich. Very practical and informative. I read a bit at a time. Make adjustments and then read some more. I made huge financial gains in just the past 18months and have changed my life dramatically for the better.
1984. Just started but only about 10 pages into it. I got this because I keep hearing about correlations between it and the org.
Brave New World. It was required reading in High School. I wanted to read it as an adult 30 years later.
Close the Deal. I'm relatively new to sales as a specific career. The info is practical without making me feel that I have to be an agressive jerk in order to make a living in my new career. It's great because I can open to any page and get something out of it. It's a good read first thing in the morning while getting my day started. Or in the afternoon when I need a little break. Sometimes I make photocopies of a few pages to take with me while waiting in doctor's office, etc. It helps me stay focused and get to the point so I'm not wasting my or my customer's time (with unnecessary chatter or with a product that is clearly not appropriate for them or will take too much of my time with minimal return.)
Soft-Selling in a Hard World. Much to the chagrin of our VP of Sales. He doesn't respect anything other than hard-core agression. (I took this book home after the first week.)
I have a very large custom-made book case 10' wide x 7' tall. At one time it was filled double layers with books. Last week I boxed up all my jw literature (whilst I decide what I want to do with it all) Ten years ago I gave away several sets of encyclopedias, W&A Bound Volumes (complete set from 1968 thru 1992), and nearly the full collection of Reader's Digest books going back to the 50's with quite a few from before then.
That's about it for me. I look forward to doing more reading once I get into my new home. Mid Jan is the move date. I just hope I get my present home sold in time or else, with two mortgages, I'll be using my books for heat...

a) you'll find no ash trays.
b) no lottery tickets laying on the counter.
c) a jw calendar in sight for everyone to see.
OMG! We had the same thing at my house. LOL!!!
CG - I just wanted to die whenever someone would visit or ring our door. It was placed so that you could plainly see when standing outside our front door.

My mom did a needlepoint piece of work:
"But as for me and my household, we shall serve JEHOVAH" w/ the scripture reference. (and, yes, there was red lettering - although maybe only the word 'Jehovah' was in red.)
When I bought my condo, she made one just like it for me. I tucked it behind my bookcase. I delayed hanging other pictures for about 4 years so I could tell her that I hadn't hung up anything yet.
When I was about 11 or 12, there was a large posterboard picture of a paradise that I got the younger kids to give to our parents on their anniversary. I neatly wrote in bold lettering in the white border at the bottom: "Look...I am making all things new." Rev. x:x-x (I no longer remember the verse)
And there was plenty of booze up on the top shelf of a few kitchen cupboards.

1001 ways to say i'm not one of jehovah's witnesses.. and one year into my apostahood.
this forum has been a 'godsend' to me.
(i dared to know...).
Thanks, Golf.
It's been a heck of a week. Solidly taking true ownership of my life and moving on. New home, new goals, new perspective.
I'm a happy, happy girl.

FlyingHighNow - Timed out near perfectly! Can't believe it's been a year already. And yet, seems so long ago I was still feeling shame for my inactivity. A 'walk-away believer' with lingering depression.
What a difference a year makes!!!
The air is so much fresher. The sun shines brighter. And the birds are singing at the top of their little lungs.

defd/derrick is a current-jw posting on this board.
he's been on for quite some time now, maybe not a year, but awhile.
many have tried to show him the many ways the watchtower doesn't live up to its claim of being god's organization, but he seems unflappable.. so where do you stand on him now?
Was that a hug? Are brothers and sisters supposed to do that?
Yup. It was a hug.
Did that make you uncomfortable???
I have 3 brothers. I hug them everytime we say good-bye. We also give hugs when someone is feeling sad or very happy.
-Aude.
