Ken -
Sorry to hear about your troubles.
Hope all goes very well.
A reminder: You may want to update any advance medical directive that could be on file at the hospital. I had some trouble getting mine changed when I was admitted thru the emergency room 2 weeks ago. I ended up with an unwelcome visit from the local elders...
I wish you a speedy recovery.

Got to Go In the Hospital Tuesday
by Undecided ini've had bhp for several years, but last week it became so enlarged i couldn't pee.
the urologist let me see if it would shrink by leaving me on catheterization for several days and remove it to see if i could pee, no luck.
today he looked at my bladder through my penis.

"I don't have the energry to do extra exercise other than cleaning house, running after kids , but I did do 8 minutes on the stationary bike. Well its a start, I guess."
How about taking the kids out for a walk each evening after dinner??
Good for you and good for them too. It's healthy, playful family time. A little dessert when you get home.
It would probably be more fun than a stationary bike, too.

I am NOT going to smoke a cigarette today
by DanTheMan in.
so there.. i have been smoking on and off since about 1999, and i'm tired of it.
it's time to quit for good.. i will be revisiting this thread before i go to bed tonight, and i will at that time be able to post that i made it through the day without a single puff of tobacco smoke.

"get some sunflower seeds still in the shell. it will keep your mouth busy and helps some." My dad quit decades ago. He relied on Carrot Sticks and Celery to keep his hands and mouth busy. Good luck with this healthful decision! -Aude.

HAPPY DAD: Thanks for the pm.
BUHDEE: Unfortunately, you are probably right. (Sorry I am not sure I understand your credibility comment. I think you are referring to the others who posted at the beginning but then found that this is actually a serious thread...?)
REBEL8: Perfect. Thanks for the link and the tip. (I'm still a bit overwhelmed with the entire physical process so the research assist and suggestions are greatly appreciated.)
HONESTY: Thanks for response. I would have thought that based on my posting history and placement under 'MEDICAL' that people would thought mis-posting. If I was thinking more clearly, I may have just started a new thread.
JGNAT: "As a second side note, my Canadian brain doesn't quite "get" this tendency to sue first and ask questions later?"
Sigh. I'm not sure I'm inclinded to sue on this. But I *do* think it's important to pursue with governing agency to enforce HIIPA regulations.
Thanks again for assistance. I was hoping I would see more from you. I always appreciate your postings on other threads and was so pleased to find that you contributed to mine. I truly appreciate the support!
LUNA2: Yeah. It was a shocker. There was more, but, believe it or not, I shortened my tale.
EMMA: I'm glad you're doing well. I know you'll get to the bottom of your health issues.
I'm working on it!
CRUZANHEART: it's a good reminder to all of us to change that Advance Directive and make sure our wishes are updated in the hospitals' databases! Easy to forget to do that.
It's very frightening and hopefully it will save someone else from realizing too late that their AMD says: No Blood.
Everyone: There were other HIIPA violations as well. During one shift, a diligent attendent blocked calls to me in the CCU. My pushy, medical employee, JW sister forced them to give her my HIIPA # for access to me and my records by relaying my profile. I was pleased the hospital was protecting my privacy but then realized that the same person violated the privacy because the person on the phone (my sister) knew me so intimately.
My estranged JW mother also got thru to me in the CCU. The attendant cheerfully and helpfully interrupted a call with a close friend to tell me that my mom is on the phone. She looked put out (or maybe worried that she violated policy) when I told her: "Oh. That's not good. I haven't seen or heard from her in over a year. I don't know where she lives and I don't have her phone number. A call from my mom is not full of warm fuzzies."
She's a staunch, near militant JW.
Looks like me and OCR and the hospital will be having a few discussions about this.
If the elders actually *do* contact me as a result of this, I might consider contacting an attorney. I did not sleep well last night and am on my way to the doctor. It might be normal post-op stuff. It might be my brain running ahead of reality and making a bigger deal of something than warranted.
But they were still violations of my privacy and that is a very, very uncomfortable feeling.

MYSELF: it was the last thing you needed. It is a lesson learned, and a good warning to those trying to fade as peacefully as possible.
Exactly. I thought others would want to know so they can avoid getting caught unprepared.
HORRIBLE LIFE: there seems to be a very severe HIPPA violation.
You are right. I was thinking just intrusive JWs but this does seem to be legal issue.
I'm tired and a little resistant to 'life-style' changes. I am on the mend and, as far as know, am expected to recover nicely. Thanks for asking. :)
OUTNFREE: I can imagine the sick feeling inside when you realized who that man was and what the repercussions might be for you. I wish you peace and a speedy return to full health.
Oh! Yes. A knot in my stomach that returns when I see his face in my mind. Thanks for the well-wishes and hugs. I wish you the same and think about you often during your own health challenges. ((((Brenda))))
JGNAT: a sentence like, "Do you still consider yourself one of the Jehovah's Witnesses" would sound so innocent to a bystander, yet so chilling to a fading JW.
Funny. I felt it coming and felt helpless to avoid it. It was chilling. When he left my room, I flopped on my bed and phoned a friend. The friend (non-jw) just didn't understand. Told me I should have just told him to 'f-off' and get out of my hospital room. *sigh* Deep breath. I'm getting all worked up again just re-living it...
JGNAT: Health plans, providers and clearinghouses that violate these standards will be subject to civil liability.
Quick with the research and reference. Thank You!!
Who sanctions the hospital? Where do I file a complaint?
CANDIDLYNUTS: i seriously would consult an attorney before talking to hospital admin.
Interesting. You are one cool, thoughtful bird. Thanks for the suggestion and well-wishes. I will give that serious consideration. I'm getting excited and weary just thinking about it.... Very interesting....
Anyone else have comments or suggestions about reporting HIIPA violations? Any experiences about taking Hospital & HLC to task for intruding??

god bless this site
by hurt dave infor someone who was raised in the "truth" for 17 years it was a very hard and a very scary decision when my father finnally had the "you must choose a side of the fence" speech and when i chose not to do it anymore he flipped his lid and i so "tormented" by my decsion i latched on to "maryjane" to fill the "need".
after living with my parents for two years and then on my own for two more years crying everynoght cause i was alone not knowing way i felt this way this way, i felt a spirtual need at 3:30am i drove to my dads house and beged him to let me came home because the "voices" were drivin me crazy and i needed "guidance" he said well get you a meeting with elders and a "bible study".
so i move back in, had a talk with the elders where they used the bible to call me stupid and i went to there meeting where they used what i said in private and made a whole new talk based around it i broke down crying and prayed to god for the guidacne to make me strong and make the tears stop and the holy spirt led me to this site i moved in with my brother and told my parents i can know longer belive the "truth".

I agree: Bless this site!! It has been just perfect for me, too.

Pets will definitely help make your new place 'homey'.
A housewarming party is a great start and gets your friends and coworkers familiar with your new digs.
Go for walks. Meet your new neighbors. Keep a few snacks and maybe a few beers on hand so you can invite someone up to chat. (Actually, if you keep beers in your fridge, you will probably have plenty of visitors.)
Get an outdoor grill. Share with a neighbor and offer to share a salad if they'll bring drinks or dessert.
I think it's a great learning experience for everyone to live alone - at least for 6 months. You will survive. And you'll only become a loner if you chose to be.
BTW - How come the sudden change in living arrangements? (Sorry if this is too personal or if this was covered on a different thread...)
