  Annual Meeting

  my uber cousin and wife are going back to wallkill this weekend for the annual meeting since they have a daughter and son in law in the inner sanctum so they are always invited.

  cousin said it was going to be broadcast from patterson to wallkill.

  anyone hear anything else about subject matter etc?.

  Do You Think People Have Forgotten About 9/11?

  after all these years, it seems to me that people do not properly take note of what happened on this date in 2001. for some, it’s like nothing major happened.

  for me it is a day of reflection..

  Certainly on this side of the Atlantic the anniversary passed with hardly a mention. One had to look on the "USA News" section of the main media webpages to see that it was happening. On tv it was way down the list and I saw no mention in newspapers.

  So yes, to Min's question. The early year's commemoration got great publicity. Now it is pushed to the background.

  Cringe in December

  oh boy, the meetings lined up for december are culty.. it all starts with a 5 minute talk someone has to give on the topic "why should we not be troubled by the increase of memorial partakers in recent years?".

  the next week again inserts jws into bible prophecy, first with "the earth swallowed up the river", which claims that court victories for the org are really god's doing.

  there is no mention on who is responsible for the many judgements against the org.. then there's this chart to be discussed that same night:.

  I would love to raise my hand and ask the unfortunate speaker why should we view this number as literal , when the others are symbolic ("delivered in signs" ?

  I like D of C's cartoon .LOL

  I dunno about singing while you drive , lots do (on an open straight road ) Do they really think driving a family to a meeting is a calm happy affair? In my experience it was rushed, late , tense , after getting washed & changed and ready.

  However, my beef and that of the dub family members was " How can you remember the words of the scriptures or the songs when the keep changing it ?"

  My Missus gets puzzled looks and patronizing corrections if she refers to Bible verse from memory......they have changed the words now in the revised NWT . The old songs too now have different words......That is counter productive to remembering it.

  New Armageddon date?

  looking at the most recent wt the study article focuses on the jubilees.

  the made a separate box in the article to highlight the math behind jubilees, and i'm wondering if they're trying to get people thinking and stir up the pot without actually making a false prophecy.

  for instance: jubilees happened every 7 times 7 years.

  In my recent experience things have changed since we were active. Dubs these days just dont seem to be that bothered . I spend some time with the locals both at the Hall and in occasional social conversations ( Just as a dutiful husband determined to keep the marriage alive)

  I have not heard anyone speculating about dates or even wanting to talk about their faith . It all seems to be social and just getting work done. None of the enthusiasm and expectations that we once had.

  I guess if you are going to stay in, that's how it has to be. The thinkers like us have left by now.

  i just finished looking through the circuit overseer manual, so here are some highlights.

  first up, regarding circuit assemblies:.

  if a brother is so extremely overweight that others would be distracted if he had a part on the program, good judgment would need to be used in deciding whether to give him an assignment.

  I can just imagine the poor speaker asking the q, and nobody standing up. Do they have to be told not to proceed with baptism ritual?

  If you are going to remain physically in you had better make up yoiur mind to either :-

  1) lead a totally double life by seeking Outside associates and romance, looking over your shoulder all the time for informers, and knowing that you can never marry or live together openly.

  2) Settle for a bachelor life.......

  Museums growing at the branches especially Warwick

  i am not sure if this has been discussed but last night mid week meeting about organisational accomplishments really got my goat as the example of the temple was used.

  people contributed to the building of the jewish temple and now the museum and bethel in warwick.

  this supposed .be evidence of god s guidance.

  Did I not hear Mark Sanderson claim that this was a multicultural society? Really?

  The Cambridge Dictionary defines that as , " including people of many different customs and beliefs" .. I leave you to decide if that is true of the WTS......

  We went to thev " Show Love Gallery" more trumpet blowing . Why did that title remind me of the Ministry of Love in Orwell's 1984? That building was really an instrument of repression.

  Many many years back I enjoyed Bethel tours. I think I would want to give this one a miss even if I were still in.

  How a rumor of assassination spooked the Watchtower

  president kennedy's brother robert excited the world as a candidate for president 5 years after jfk's murder.rfk, in turn, was murdered.the assassin's name was sirhan sirhan, he was palestinian.it just so happened the assassin's father, bishara, was a member in good standing as one of jehovah’s witnesses.so what?

  so this:this seemingly innocent fact would jolt jehovah's witnesses into a near panic.

  i know because i was there.here are the facts as i remember them.______the jehovah's witness, bishara sirhan unfortunately had a reputation in his neighborhood and community for being excitable, even volatile at times.

  I remember the events well, a shocking assassination. Word of a J W connection reached our cong. (U.K.) when our Cong.Servant ( pre elder times) mentioned it in a prayer . Later he explained that he had heard the news .

  Did not the WT or Aw. Print a disclaimer ,under Watching the World , or something similar?
