Ahh... don’t remind me of “Trevor-gate”. That enormous wind up that got us all going.
This has been an enjoyable and sobering thread . In a few years it will be us they talk about, .....Hopefully...

so my jw father is sick.
my mother uses the opportunity to try and preach to my 16 year old daughter.
i simply told my mother to: "please refrain from trying to lure *my daughter* in with jehovah's witness questioning.
I am sorry for your bad experience, it must be very hurtful. I cannot fathom the mind of a person who would write this. The paradox is that no doubt she can be kind and loving toward those within her faith .
I do not think that all JWs would do this. I have known some who still managed to do little kindnesses to their d/f ones.
Oh well,if that is how it is then so be it. You are right to keep your daughter away from that sort of attitude.
just recently the stone pyramid monument at c t russell's grave site was taken away by the wts.. six screens of the watchtower did a public discussion about the removal which may be still on that web site, that's where i heard about it.. it had been recently vandalized such the top head piece was removed and the carved christian cross on the monument was chiseled off.. since the wts owns that grave site, they have the right to do whatever they want to do with it.. my guess is that they will never put it back or redo the damage.. i think they will put it away in a obscure place and cover it, locked up somewhere.. the wts.
has never been proud or willingly open about that monument for obvious reasons such as being associated in false religion, which they claim they are not and they admonish other christian faiths are.. your thoughts ?
.
Funnily enough, there’s a thread on this over on the pro JW site , JW Talk. It has some interesting comments and photos

have you heard this?
in the country of guatemala, by presidential mandate, all religion meetings should be celebrated only on-line!.
generally speaking, i wonder how worlwide restrictions on religious activities because of the pandemia are affecting them ...and the borg in particular.
I only know that my lot are more than happy to zoom in (and turn off the sound when they want to) The camera is optional. Long may it last.
a thread in honour of our departed friend minimus.
.
I have commented on the other thread A very sad loss for us all and even more for those close to him

Well, that is sad news. It is true to say that this board will not be same without him. He was unique. You could see that he never could have remained a dub, he asked too many questions.
He was one of the few that have been here longer than me. I must admit that in recent years his posts often betrayed a political view that I could not share, but hey, anyone who opposes the Watchtower has got to be on my side.
Condolences to his family, I am sure he will be deeply mourned. RIP brother ......
if jw wants to know the truth about the truth, what will you talk about first?
I would be very careful in what I say, he might shop me to the elders.
i have a question for those more versed in biblical history than i. .
knowing that a belief in a resurrection on messianic times was a later jewish belief ... but still ... did the ot jews believe that someone served a capital punishment / death sentence would be elegible for future resurrection?.
meaning: when coding the torah, did its writers intended that the capital punishment also be understood as an obliteration for all eternity?.
“This bears significance to me, as I'm arguing about the significance of Jehovah's Witnesses comparing disfellowshipping as being analogous to ancient capital punishment in ancient Israel.“
In the past they have certainly used this analogy but I don’t think they would be so certain now. Everything changes in WT doctrine, don’t we know, and thoughts on the resurrection are less dogmatic.
They know that some will not be resurrected but who ? Nowadays an informed Witness would simply say that is up to Jehovah and they will wait and see.

this item just featured on the bbc lunchtime news today as the headline story and the piece included a reporter who singled out jehovah's witnesses for discussion from the 30 organisations covered by the report.
the news item then went on to feature an extensive interview ex elder and ex jehovah's witness writer lloyd evans..
Thanks Earnest , and others, for clarification of the reporting policy. So they do report IF they think a child is at further risk. That is a big IF and a big responsibility to shoulder.
They could save themselves a lot of heat by 2 simple rule changes
1) report every allegation
2) have criminal background checks for elders and M/s

The J W’s are taking a lot of heat about this today. The report press release is critical of all the religious bodies that it investigated but the media has been quick to talk about the JWs..... not without cause I may add.
One thing, the news report said that they have a policy of mandatory reporting in Britain. I was not aware of that, I thought that since it was not legally required here they did not do it. .... can you tell me if I was wrong?
