Kingdom-Shop Hall

i was driving through the high street in highbrooms, royal tunbridge wells, uk yesterday.. in amongst the shop fronts was something ive never seen before.

a large shop front with big glass windows,posters in the windows saying "start your free bible study today" (or something along those lines.

where the shop name would be there was a large jw.org logo and a blue banner.

W T Wizard made some good points, this could be misleading of this Assembly, but ....

it looks a lot like my wife’s congregation, old. The majority are in their later years and the younger ones are born-ins.

I do not know or hear of anybody from the outside studying and coming to meetings .

Oh, except that strange guy that has come for years and everyone tries to avoid because he is a pain....

What was the retirement plans you heard brothers talk about if any

i know some would not think about retirement.

i had one brother who would pioneer as he could afford and when he paid off his home he was about to collect social security.

he made enough that his plan was to work two to three days a week and pioneer the rest of the week.

Of my generation ( post WW2 baby-boomers) nobody dared talk about retirement, it would betray a lack of faith in the message. Least of all would you dream of a retirement of leisure and relaxation. No, No No...

This meant that nobody had retirement income set aside . I have known some that struggle especially those that were self employed.

The only thing was , if retirement age approached, a desire expressed to Pioneer . Some did for a while until old age and infirmity take their toll. That is when we are all glad of this world's system and the National Health Service..

Watchtower facility tour

do they still allow "tours" in their facilities?

The tours of Warwick do not seem to offer much in the way of really seeing the place. They appear limited to visitor areas and museum displays. Lloyd Evans' video is very good.

I remember as a kid our congregation trips to London Bethel. We were shown all the huge printing presses and services . One time it was the Branch Overseer that showed us round. They were not so secretive in those days.

Advertising and the Melbourne International Convention

they keep confirming that religion is big business.the melbourne international convention is this weekend and i wish all the best to the activists who will be present.i came across this website set up for jws in attendence with comprehensive guides and information.

it's obvious that it has been created by the jws since they write this under the rooming tab.

we are all now free to book accommodation using the recommended lodging list (rll) which is provided on the rooming website!.

A grumpy old cynic like me had my doubts about whether these offers were on the specific JW Convention website.... but yes , having gone to the publicly available Jw Convention site the logo identifies it as their own convention.

Well well we’ll! As the old song says “ Things ain’t what they used to be” . With all those distractions, how much of the Convention would I have attended?

Melbourne looks a nice place, especially on a cold dull Winter’s day in Britain.

Whilst I doubt the effectiveness of Convention protests, and I do not endorse disruptive behaviour, one could ask “ Why does anybody protest about anything?

They don’t only do It for publicity and , at least in the short term, it does not bring changes. People protest because they have a grievance ,they want others to know what they do . It makes a statement. It is cathartic.

There are those who ask, why keep posting on line? Get a life!

We post here for the same reasons. It gets things off our chest, we enjoy the online association with others who have similar experiences, we know then that we are not alone. Also, others do read our written exposure of the WTS , many have learned and benefitted.

So re. The Convention protestors, I won’t be joining you but if you are so moved, go right ahead.

First On-Screen Crush?

many years ago, we lived in a world where the one tv in your house might be black and white, perhaps color if you were lucky, but either way the screen was small and the arial on your house would struggle to deliver a decent signal but often fail in a fuzzy mess.

most of the movies you saw were old, there was no home video or rental - you got a chance to see something and then it was gone.

planning your viewing was important to make sure you didn't miss something so you'd carefully scan the tv guide to pick out your favourites ... good job there were only 2 or 3 channels to look through.. but you could still see quality if you went to the movie theatre and there you got to see glorious film on a giant screen (which is only now being equalled quality wise).

Do you want to know a sure sign of growing old ? It is when your first screen crush now has advertised anti-wrinkle cream !

I mean Jane Fonda ....... Barefoot in The Park. Barbarella , Cat Ballou.

mormon missionaries move around during their two-year preaching missions, but the phones they use remain in the different preaching locations.

this means that contact details of “interested persons” are routinely passed on from one missionary pair to the next, when the phone is handed over.

in order to comply with the new data protection rules, missionaries now ask for consent to keep data from their contacts.

I guess that depends on you giving over your mobile no. , something I would not do. But other people are not like me.... it seems to work.

Certainly they are better trained and more business like.

My JW mom tried telling me this

going thru a bit of a life situation right now... i should have listened to a few of your a couple months ago.

this girl i was seeing has completely stopped talking to me as of 2 weeks ago.

she springs on me she is pregnant possibly a abortion, but would consider adoption or sever the rights.

It is not just the WT ..No doubt she is shocked and a bit angry at the situation. She is a Mother, after all . Try and cut her some slack.

the link is to the report on the new moston congregation in manchester u.k. the report says that better safeguarding has been introduced !

we could tell then where even "better" safeguarding is still woefully short of what most other organizations are doing..

This release was 2017....

A search of Charities Commission showed that they still exist as a charity.

The trustees would a gang of three elders who signed legal docs for KHall ownership and charity purposes..... I thought they had done away with that system now...
