Note the instruction to review the qualified Public Speakers.... If they did that properly , precious few would pass examination to give what is now just a 30 minute talk.
Thanks Petra.... you do a stirling job!

as jehovah’s witnesses, we were regularly told how awful a college education is.
i’m no longer associated with the religion but i am not so pro university.
it’s not because i think you are better off without a degree.
Someone said
”JWs and ex JWs are least qualified to answer this.”
Thats probably true but I do know it’s wrong to stop bright people doing it if they want
having a conversation with a pimi elder and i asked him how he deals with the fact that he never expected to get old.
i get the feeling that some dubs still have the original generation explanation hard-wired, even though they claim to accept the new version.
so my question is, how old do you have to be to be considered old?

Like that elder in the o/p , at 51 I would have said “ that’s not old” When I passed the “ three score and ten”, I accepted that I was old.. After that the body starts to remind you that it is not what it used to be...
Believe me, the male body has ways of letting you know that you are past it !
the humanist organisation in the uk wants to protect non-religious people who leave their church/religion from being punished for doing so.
they want the religious hate crime legislation in the uk to be extended to people who are not religious.
i hope they will succeed.
Quote:
“Mr Thompson said: "It should not be a crime to leave a religion, but as our evidence shows, we know that people have been threatened with death and violence after announcing they are leaving Islam."
Humanists UK wants the definition of hate crime to be extended to people who are non-religious to ensure that laws forbidding religious hate crimes equally include those with non-religious beliefs.”
.....
Hmm. I am not sure that being shunned by ex friends is in the same league as the violence described above. Of course, everyone is entitled to avoid anybody if they wish to. The “crime” is an authority ordering a blanket shunning of an individual. The announcement only tells the cong. that so and so is no longer a Witness. Those who tell them to shun such ones are in the USA away from the UK law jurisdiction, so I don’t know how it would be enforced.
I would like to see it happen though !
jw broadcasting sept 2019 issue commentary.
according to the jw in the sept 2019 episode, the ukrainian soccer player andriy nesmachniy (go to 1:04:14 in the video) "abandoned" his career for jehovah????
he retired at 32 years old, the normal retirement age among soccer players.
Joe....
A decision to have a KH memorial or not is purely a local thing. Up to the local BOE . Another Body may well have done it. The ' Shepherding' book used to say that even d/f'd ones may be memorialized if they were not notorious.
In my elder days I would probably have done it.
i was driving through the high street in highbrooms, royal tunbridge wells, uk yesterday.. in amongst the shop fronts was something ive never seen before.
a large shop front with big glass windows, posters in the windows saying "start your free bible study today" (or something along those lines.
where the shop name would be there was a large jw.org logo and a blue banner.
From the Fallguy’s link.........
That is handy, being next door to an Indian Takeaway. At least it would be easy to get to.. I expect the buses go by the door.
at an assembly in texas is it me or are there not too many young folk about 😉.
.
W T Wizard made some good points, this could be misleading of this Assembly, but ....
it looks a lot like my wife’s congregation, old. The majority are in their later years and the younger ones are born-ins.
I do not know or hear of anybody from the outside studying and coming to meetings .
Oh, except that strange guy that has come for years and everyone tries to avoid because he is a pain....
i know some would not think about retirement.
i had one brother who would pioneer as he could afford and when he paid off his home he was about to collect social security.
he made enough that his plan was to work two to three days a week and pioneer the rest of the week.
Of my generation ( post WW2 baby-boomers) nobody dared talk about retirement, it would betray a lack of faith in the message. Least of all would you dream of a retirement of leisure and relaxation. No, No No...
This meant that nobody had retirement income set aside . I have known some that struggle especially those that were self employed.
The only thing was , if retirement age approached, a desire expressed to Pioneer . Some did for a while until old age and infirmity take their toll. That is when we are all glad of this world's system and the National Health Service..
i'm curious.
it's been a long time since i've even come near the borganization.
do they still allow "tours" in their facilities?
The tours of Warwick do not seem to offer much in the way of really seeing the place. They appear limited to visitor areas and museum displays. Lloyd Evans' video is very good.
I remember as a kid our congregation trips to London Bethel. We were shown all the huge printing presses and services . One time it was the Branch Overseer that showed us round. They were not so secretive in those days.
