Midweek Meeting Part on 2023 Governing Body Update #7: The video 2023 Govern- ing Body Update #7 should be played the week of November 13, 2023, in place of the 15- minute local needs part. If your congregation has a circuit assembly or convention the week of November 13, the video should be played the week of November 20 in place of the 10- minute part "An Arrangement to Comfort Those at Bethel." The timing of the Congregation Bible Study should be reduced as needed.”

  even elders can be part of the new jw lite brigade these days.

  they don’t need to go on door to door anymore and there is no requirement for anything really.. taking meeting parts is all dead easy you could turn up on the day with zero preparation because it’s all in the meeting workbook.. quarterly elders meetings are just old men having a good old natter just like old men do down the pub.. congregations could be likened to pubs or bars these days just without the drinks, those come at other times.. no need for territory maps, these almost went away with covid letter writing now they are extremely slow getting finished as those who still go door to door only do ten mins.. you could even voice your questions these days about things the gb say and then just say “we can’t be dogmatic we just don’t know”.

  i predict they will say this about 1914 soon..

  The o/p is a little extreme but , yes it is far easier to be a dub these days . That’s if you are not motivated to “ seek first the Kingdom “ , you can tread water quite happily.

  Great info in this thread , there was some stuff I did not know.

  one change that is fundamental is the identity of the faithful and discreet slave . For decades growing up and serving, we all knew that it was the remaining ones on Earth of the anointed 144,000. Then when the numbers started rising, and they suspected some “fake anointed “, they changed it to the Gov. Body themselves, only.

  I mean , if they didn’t even know who they were for all that time, how can they be appointed by Christ to “care for his belongings “?

  They based the practice of making regular reports on this Scripture, so I was informed by our old Congregation Servant when I was young ....

  Ezek. 9:11

  ’And, behold, the man clothed with linen, which had the inkhorn by his side, reported the matter, saying, I have done as thou hast commanded me. ( KJV)

  If they could find a Scripture to support it , they will no doubt find another one to support stopping it.

  request from researcher: is it true that children in the early years of the watchtower society, were bribed into the field ministry work to make a profit to have money to spend?

  if this is true, would you know where i could find that information?

  When I was a kid, or later, nobody ever offered me a bribe to give up Saturday morning to go out on the work ….. Why didn’t I get One ?

  We ( my wife and I ) used to hate these sort of family life articles.. Everyone would put up their hand and trot out their little anecdotes or personal beefs. We were never the typical JW couple and neither would shape up to the Watchtower ideal of a husband and wife .

  Yet , we get along fine ( especially since I quit dub land and stopped trying to be what they say I should be) we have been married something approaching 50 years and it has never been better.. So much for the WT ideals !

  Zoom is a wonderful provision. Just think , if it were not for that the dubs who would rather not go , would have to attend .... and that would impact on me !

  As it is we sit and listen with a cup of coffee and can make cryptic remarks about the speaker’s lack of ability... Much better thank you.

  Officially it has replaced the phone link and KH Coms audio they have always had.

  The GB as JW celebrities

  i am really,really curious as to how other people back while in the org viewed the gb.

  because my oldest brother (older than me by 14 years!

  ) was first at the watchtower farms and then brooklyn bethel and my uncle is a member of the gb, my mother tended to flaunt these facts and look for every opportunity to go to either place with her bible studies (these terms are so weird to use after all these years lol).

  What Happened to 2034?

  some years ago the wt started putting it out there that noah took 120 years to build the ark, and since the wt was the new ark, it may allow them up to 2034 (1914 + 120) before armageddon.

  it could have been their new 1975 to get excited about, but i don't see any mention of it at all now.

  what happened during the two decades since last i observed anything about the wt?.

  2034?....That was a nothing. It is only what some people, outside of the Org. as far as I know, tried to read into it. TheWatchtower never said it.

  Those comments about elders chasing reports are so typical. My wife only ever gets a call or a text when they want a report..... never just to see that she is ok.

  I am glad the AGM will become public knowledge quickly. I can then assess what they actually said and discuss it at home.
