I still think it might be the truth - what is wrong with me?
by slimboyfat inapostate literature - i have read the lot.
you name it - c of c, gentile times reconsidered, thirty tears a watchtower slave, the orwellian world of jehovah's witness, apocalypse delayed, and the freeminds and watchtower observer sites, so on and so on.
and i have been reading the posts on this site regularly pretty much since it started, and hourglass before it.

my mom stopped going to meetings today
by dh in.
i don't talk about my family very much on here, but today i feel i have to, because today after all the years of pushing, finally there is a result.. thanks to life & the universe and everyone on jwd, who by simply existing have helped in a way that i don't know how to write.. today is the day my mom stopped going to meetings.. i won't go into loads of detail at this point because it's very involved, but it's done.
my dad is an elder and is still going, but my mom is out now.. thanks

JW table at small airport

immidiately, her "my book of bible stories" jumped out at me.
her table was covered with printed propaganda.

What is the bible for?

Thinking back
by purplesofa inmy bookstudy was at an elders house that lived a bit out of the city.
a small road with only his house and another.
the other house was the first you passed.....unsightly....trashed cars.......broken down bicycles............not trashy, but not like the bit of paradise at the elder house.. i remember the elder telling us how the man had become ill and lost his job working for the waterworks department, a city job, with little wages.

:I remember one CO telling me that the organization was not big on 'sentimentality'.
There's a role model for ya. All those wasted hours in the door to door shit when we could have been volunteering at a soup kitchen or something. I remember an elder friend of mine and I in field service once and we saw a little boy crying outside of an appartment building. It was like minus 20 outside and he was just in his PJ's. We stopped and my friend helped him get inside.. found out his mom had left for work and he followed her outside and there was nobody there to take care of him. God that was sad. We helped get someone over there to look after the kids and I remember thinking that was most productive thing I had ever been a part of in field service.

one of the questions was this: if you had could choose to live a life as an entirely content simpleton (forest gump) or a tortured genius (pablo picasso) what would you choose?
i was really taken aback when a lot of my friends said that they would choose to be forest.

Where do you think evil (or bad behavior) comes from?

being that my husband is a long time witness i know what the witness view is, it is all satan's doing.

I really think you don't have to disbelieve in God to realize we arent being messed around with by demons. Put it this way - why do you think there was a tidal wave that killed thousands of people in Indonesia, including woman and children? What God would allow that? Not one with human compassion. The problem is thinking it has human emotions like us - thats why we find it so hard to comprehend and a get messed up in crazy cults like the JW's. If you accept that you can't really understand things, that its IMPOSSIBLE to ever really understand it.. it makes more sense. lol.
