I agree with this. I think that any 'Sky Daddy' sort of beliefs are doomed to the realm of 'faith' and that faith by its very nature can turn ugly real quick. Why can't we all just accept that the unknowable is unknowable? I just don't feel the NEED to believe in a God that some people do, and certainly not to worship 'She' 'He' "It' or 'Them' (S.H.I.T).

...my gran, who has been a jw since the 1950's will be reproved publicly for speaking to her grand-daughter who is disfellowshipped.

she is 77 years old and i am worried that it will be the death of her.

the"truth" has been her life for nearly fifty years and she is still a regular publisher.. if she continues to commit this gross sin she will be disfellowshipped.. her daughter and son in law are to be disfellowshipped for the terrible sin of allowing their daughter to live under their roof since she left her husband.

Drawing unfair comparisions-Convention talk on Tues night

tuesdays meeting had a part about the upcoming summer convention.

alot of q n a about how to dress, to wear your lapel at all times, to be clean, to not eat out bec the worldly vendors would be upset that they are not allowed to sell food inside the arena, to watch your language, conduct at the motels, to walk quietly, to not be in the halls during the sessions, informal witness at every opportunity etc.

then this man comments and says, "what other religion would clean up the arena before and after a convention?

The workers in the concession stands would be laughing their faces off at the crazy dub-speak. It would get distracting for real or potential cultists.

i'm a happy enough guy but i find i get somewhat irritated reading of the faith people have in their belief systems, even outside of the dubs.

What I'm saying is if you can't really put faith in a God based on evidence is it worth it just to create one in your mind to use as a crutch? And how does one go about doing this? And to the true believer's, can you imagine a world where no caring God exists? Is it really that bad?

Freedom I would like to believe in an afterlife but the evidence just isnt there to support it. I'd also like to believe I'm as hot as Brad Pitt but the evidence just isnt there to support that either. I guess what I'm saying is that I'm a hopeful but extremely skeptical agnostic. If there were a God in the universe I hope he would appriciate any effort we make to help our fellow man, I think that would be all he could expect since he makes no effort to prove his existence. But that dream isnt my motivation in trying to be the best person I can be.

I know how you feel about the afterlife though Freedom. It would be nice to think that there is one.
