the following is a paragraph from the new february study watchtower article "learn from jehovah's loyal servants.".

7 a conflict of loyalties may arise when a close relative is disfellowshipped.

for example, a sister named anne [1] received a telephone call from her disfellowshipped mother.

I started a new thread but tonight on ABC in America the tv show 20/20 is doing an indepth interview with Leah Remini about her 30 years as a Scientologist. I saw some preview clips and there is talk about shunning and other stuff that might be interesting for a dub to watch.

We tape that show so it will be normal for us to watch it. My wife also watch the HBO Scientology documentary but it didn't seem to phase her...or did it and she's not saying anything? Never know with a dub.

Beth Sarim I agree with much that you said but I just don't think most elders are smart enough to really try to trick many people into speaking their true feelings. Rather I think they befriend people and seem sincere but if that person actually trusts the elder as a friend and reveals something negative - Wham! They're out!

I really don't remember an article being so blatant and actually providing the wording for the witness to say. My wife is very uncomfortable with shunning when it is discussed in relation to other religions but doesn't seem to bat an eye when it comes to the witnesses.

Your thoughts on Halloween , yes, no or maybe ?

well its that time again when the ghouls come out to play.

i personally think halloween is a bit irresponsible and inappropriate from a sociological perspective.. there's something about the intent of frightening young impressionable children minds with frightening objests.

and feeding them candy which most likely cause tooth decay and stomachs is irresponsible activity conducted by adults.

It's a conveyor belt of money for hollywood blockbuster movie budgets.

...And I love it!

I work with all my kids to pick out fun costumes that they like and make sure they are ready to go.

Since my wife is a witness the kids and I keep it low key. We don't pass out candy; my wife rarely even knows what costume the kids have picked out, the kids stay at a friends house so they can trick or treat and eat until they're sick.

If pagans hung out with their neighbors, gave away free sugar and then ate it until they were sick all while wearing the latest "do I fit in with my friends" costume - then yippeee!

Personal experience rant

so i was reading over new member hollywood 20s experience and thinking of using it when i'm going to talk with my son that their trying to get baptized.

so that with all the other things through my mind i decided to say some things to him about what's going on with my daughter.

so this is what happening with her.

Sorry to hear about what's going on crazy guy. But, I really feel for you. I would just be so frustrated if my kids chose to be witnesses. Hang in there and keep being a great father!

Did he say that KH construction would continue but only in places where it could be afforded? Does that mean the local witnesses will have to pay for their own KH construction on top of their monthly tithe to the WTS?

Just found out their about to baptise my 14 year old boy.

there doing this right under my nose but i just found out.

not sure what to do but would like your help on getting me wt information on my headship role and how they shouldn't be doing this with out my permission.

also would like some help on showing my son the ramifications on what happens to someone when they get baptized and how they'll expect him to treat me.

Hang in there CrazyGuy. You're in a tough situation. Your spouse is really working hard to get your kid(s) in the truth and is convinced that having them baptized will lock them in so to speak. In my opinion the key thing for you to do is love your son unconditionally. It may make you physically sick to see this happen but if you stand by him whether or not he gets baptized he may see the light one day and knows that you will be there for him. A lot of us never had that from a parent.

It seems like you are doing all you can. My oldest told me several years ago that she was going to get baptized. When I asked why she admitted it was to make mom happy. I told her that baptism can't be undone and that she could get disfellowshipped if she makes mistakes in life and that she can't change her mind. She said she could change her mind just like I did. As a kid she had no idea how hard fading was and that I wasn't actually free to just speak my mind and change how I felt without walking on eggshells.

So, perhaps ask your son about disfellowshipping or the fact that Jehovah will destroy 99.99% of everyone on the planet. See if he has thought of those things and how they affect him.

I was able to get my daughter to agree that she would wait until she was 18 to get baptized. She isn't a witness. In fact she called it a cult several times over the past couple months and wants to know how we can get mom out.
