When I was a witness I always thought that if I bought a lottery ticket Jehovah would allow me to win so I would get in trouble with the elders.
That is just so stupid and wrong on so many levels. Very embarrassing to be brainwashed.
what if the governing body members bought a ticket or somehow obtained one.
then the unthinkable happens...they won!
how would they be able to hide that?

i wanted to relate an experience that happened this morning.
it is regarding the new format for the meeting on thursdays in my area.
its not word for word but im summarizing what i heard, the best i can remember.
recent developments make me think they might be.
the problems they are facing are not just lack of funds but also draining authority, and the two could be a heady and explosive mix.
one of the best analyses ever written of the watchtower was a book called "trumpet of prophecy" by sociologist james beckford in the 1970s.
Crazyguy,
What did you mean by this statement:
They are trying to make changes so less will leave but they have also stopped trying in 3 world countries so in the end the numbers will get worse.
I thought they were still trying to convert in undeveloped countries. I thought that is what the translation offices were for.
i know the proclamers book is studied but i would like to know how the bible is broken down into parts for study.
i know theres a complete reading of the bible by time written, antitypes, bible law but how else is it broken into parts?

I agree JWDaughter, the buildings sales provide income now but they won't get an infusion of cash like that again and if donation remain low they'll have to spend their principal and not live on the interest.
That's if if if they haven't already mortgaged those buildings in Brooklyn which means selling them only clears their debts and doesn't make them any real money.

Those videos seem very childish. I guess they need to be very clear with their words and phrasing but it didn't sound natural or comfortable at all.
What a much weirder organization they've become.
i am a non-participating christian who is fully respectful of but never had anything to do with jw.. i have a jw friend who seems to closely follow his jw belief's.
i have met most of his family and friends who all are also jw's.
he says i am his only non-jw good friend.. he is getting married this year to his long time gf and with our recent growing more guarded and distant friendship, i am wondering what is going on?.
Your friend won't be able to get married in the kingdom hall if he has any "worldly" people in the wedding, in fact a lot of elders (priests) won't perform the ceremony if a "worldly" person is in the wedding party. Maybe he's distancing himself to keep from hurting you about your lack of involvement in the wedding.
Maybe his fiance is also encouraging him to get stronger "in the truth" so he can be a ministerial servant (priest assistant). Having "worldly" friend or friends would make being a ministerial servant less likely.
It's not unheard of for a witness to have a "worldly" friend. It's just not encouraged. If you don't present a spiritual problem (i.e. lack of what Witnesses consider morality) then they won't have a big problem with you. But, as he progresses spiritually, or if you say anything even remotely anti-JW your friendship will begin to wither away.
a few years after i quit the meetings my mum needed her medical directive signed and witnessed and she asked if i'd do it.
i was surprised to say the least!.
i think she was just angling to include me and maybe find some lever to get me involved again.
For an adult - I would let them know beforehand that if the decision is mine I will allow a blood transfusion. If the decision was out of my hands I probably wouldn't campaign and fight for them to get a transfusion.
Child - I explained to my wife when I faded that our kids would have whatever medical treatment they needed. Regardless of her wishes. I told her, if the transfusion or medical procedure was successful, that she could curse me silently every time she hugged our living children.
