Lana, I understand what you're saying but that isn't what the WT actually said. And yes, I read it. If the organization wanted you to take away that neighbor means everyone they would have said that. They did not say that which means they put limits who a neighbor is. It may be a large group but it certainly isn't everyone.
You are probably a kind and loving person which is why, in your opinion, the organization meant everyone, because that is how you feel, but, I would say when the WT mentions specific groups it is for a reason. I think it's ok that you understand the article the way you but you should be careful in sharing your personal thoughts with others at the hall since witnesses need to be united in thought.

I guess what I don't get is why the WT defined neighbor at all? Why just say our neighbor is everyone and here are some examples of how we can help. Seems like it would have been simpler and easier to understand.
By defining the word neighbor and giving three categories they did in fact exclude those not in one of those groups. I guess when a witness is out of their KHs territory they don't have to treat everyone like a neighbor because they wouldn't be preaching to them.
IMHO almost every witness at the meetings understood what was really being said - we treat our families, fellow believers and those we may convert as neighbors - to hell with the rest of them.

Like most things in dubland; when it's new its exciting and everyone wants to be a part of it but it only takes a few month or a year for the excitement to die down and for the apathy to creep back in. -

Vidiot, you may be right. I have been putting it down to the fact that the dubs are so concious of class distinctions and titles combined with the mental stress they are under waiting for the world to end any second also combined with confusing and changing theology, especially lately, that becoming anointed is there way of moving beyond other regular dubs.
Plus a lot of dubs seem unbalanced mentally and partaking just caps it off.

Memorial Invitation
by sloppyjoe2 inhow do you faders/inactive handle being asked to the memorial by family?
-
TheListener
I'm probably in the minority but I attend the memorial and so do the kids. It's the only dub activity we do with my wife. Why? To keep peace in our household.
We have a nice dinner as a family, show up at the memorial, say hi to a few people I rarely see and go home to watch tv or play a game. There's worse ways to spend an evening.
So I do it to keep peace because I know my wife, along with most dubs, feel that once you stop attending the memorial you really aren't even a christian. And I don't think I can ever help my wife see TTATT if I skip the memorial.

A relative of mine goes to a hall where two sisters started partaking a couple years ago.
My relative told me that the congregation was really surprised and couldn't believe they were anointed. Both sisters were elders wives. My relative said he counted them since they are considered strong in the "tr...whatever we're calling it now...uth" and in good standing in the congregation.
It must be happening all over the world. The anointed number going up feels like an unintended consequence of something else that is going on in jw land.

Office Jargon, drives me nuts
by punkofnice in'granular' seems to be the latest buzz word going around my office.
previously it was 'appetite'.. abstract words that appear to be designed to make the person saying it appear powerful and part of the 'team'.. as lord sugar has observed before; why not just speak english and say what you mean.. office jargon really annoys me.
i had enough loaded language and jargon in the disgusting jw cult..

Older members in my family have bought tablets and have no idea what they're doing. I commented on this in another thread but basically they are always asking the younger ones at the hall to help them which at first was ok but not the younger ones are getting frustrated. It's hilarious to hear them discuss the tablets and how confusing it all is. One thing I noticed is that they never delete anything so they are always running out of memory because they don't trust the cloud. -

You don't paint the rooms on the Titanic
by TTWSYF inthis was the line my nephew gave me regarding why jws don't give alms.
i had several rebuttals to give him, but didn't.
i was hoping for some comments from this board.

My rebuttal would be "that's why I don't donate to the JWs anymore".
